3 month old baby and toddler - routine ??

DS1 is 2.3 and DS2 is 3 months old. DS1 generally sleeps from 7-7 with a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon.
DS2 sleeps about 9 pm til 4.30 am and then again til around 8 am so I have no complaints on how much sleep I am getting! We have no real set pattern in the day though - I try and remember to get him down for a nap within a couple of hours of waking up but its hard trying to sort both DSs out.
I never had any real routine with DS1 either - it just sort of fell into place over time.
Either me or DH take DS1 out to do stuff in the morning - swimming, childrens centre, soft play etc If I have both children with me then we go and do something for DS1 and DS2 sort of naps on the go.
Is this just the reality of having 2 children who have different needs or do I need to get a bit more organised with DS2 naps etc

Watching with interest as planning another next year! (Have one 11 month old DS)

It just sounds normal to me. Their nap needs change so much when they are so small and they will happily just fall asleep anywhere. Try not to worry too much, it seems like you are doing a great job for all of you

I have DD1 2.2 and DD2 3 months so a very similar situation. We don't have any kind of proper napping routine......DD1 sleeps for 2 hours in the afternoon and DD2 needs a sleep approx every hour and a half.

Don't worry too much and just go with the flow imo.

sounds fine to me i have ds1 22 months & ds2 nearly 5 months, ds2 just naps on the go if we are busy doing activities for ds1. if we are home he can nap in his cot, otherwise in buggy or just let him fall asleep anywhere really like @ childrens centre just put them in a baby chair & keep an eye on them or hold them. it would be hard on toddler to have to be home for babies naps i think, so no harm in being flexible. with ds1 i had specific times & i would be like oh 10am is nap time etc, now i just see he's tired, okay then have a nap.. much more flexible & yes i think you do have to be when you have 2, unless a big gap & older is out @ nursery or school all day.
in some ways its better for them getting used to sleep with background noise etc?

The main thin I aimed for when DD1 and DD2 were that age was to make the afternoon nap coincide so I got a bit of a break (DD1 napped from about 1pm to 2.30). Nothing much else mattered to me. So I would try and make sure that DD2 had enough of a nap in the morning (maybe in sling or buggy if out and about or if at home maybe 1hr in the cot from about 9.00 to 10.00) so she could make it through to lunchtime. Usually I would try and bf DD2 at about 12 / 12.15 and get her into bed by 12.30 then have lunch with DD1 and put her to bed then have an hour or so to myself.....

Thanks very much for all of your responses. Will chill out a bit about it I think. Did manage to put DS2 down at a similar time to DS1 for an afternoon nap so I got a break which was great !
