Why does DS ALWAYS spill his drink?

He's nearly five years old FFS!

It's getting beyond ridiculous now, it's every single time he has a cup without a lid!
I've told him he can only have baby cups from now on as I'm so fed up with clearing up spilt drinks

Surely he should be capable of drinking out of an open cup by now!?

I am 34 and frequently spill my drink or slop a bit out, i am a tiny bit clumsy. make sure whatever you give him is only filled half full at the most

if he is struggling don't embarass him by giving him a baby cup, get one with an integral straw/spout, more like one of the plastic flasks you get for school lunch boxes

Yes Yes yes!!!

My DS is almost 5 as well and it seems impossible for him to have a cup of milk/water without spilling it!! He used to be fine, but now.... ARGH!!

And sitting at the dinner table he will drop his fork, knock his brothers cups, then drop his knife....

Is it an age thing? That at 4 and a bit they go through a period of clumsiness? I swear he never used to be like this!! It is driving me bonkers!!

Oh - and jsut to add, we havent gone down the beaker route either. We just talk about it and limit him to drinking in the kitchen. He then went a few days without spilling and I said well if you are careful you can take it in the middle room. He took a few sips and put it down next to him on the car mat..then looked at me and said actually i think I will put this somewhere safer..so thats why I am thinking it is a phase??

Just make him drink everything at the table except water
if he doesn't carry drinks around he might not spill them and if he does then water won't matter

DS used to be fine too.
In fact you've just reminded me, I did a childminding course about boys a few years ago.
We learnt that boys have a testosterone surge at around 4.5, meaning they can become clumsy as they can't sit still.
Plus, if they've had a growth spurt, their minds can't keep up with their limbs hence more clumsiness.
There's my answer then - why didn't I think of that before?

He doesn't carry drinks around. Only has a drink at the table but throws his arms about and wriggles constantly on his chair
Infuriating!
