Is it quite common for infant schol-aged DC to be very interested in religion?!

DD1 is (she's 6)

We're not a religious family, don't worship anywhere

DP and I would probably describe ourselves as atheists, if pushed on it

She's not in a church school

LOVES talking about God/Jesus/Heaven/Hell/Devil etc etc

Numerous Qs about it (lots I struggle to answer, tbh!)

I'm guessing this is quite common?

(Not a problem, btw )

Yes, very common, as she's becomes more aware that this life on this planet is finite and people and animals, plants, everything, die.

notnowbernard · 01/05/2010 21:13

Yeah, we've done the death thing to death too

My DD (5) is similar. We have lived overseas until v. recently and school until now had no religious content. I have no religious affiliations.

She has just started school at a CofE school and her brother (4) goes to a catholic school - I frequently catch them having "deep and meaningful" conversations about who god loves and what jesus did!

SpringHeeledJack · 01/05/2010 21:16

Hoh, yes

extremely common, ime (3dcs)

As an agnostic/lazy arse, I also struggle to explain

...I was asked about transsubstantiation (??wine/blood, bread/body) t'other week in Westminster Cathedral

[baffled emoticon]

Yes, the majority of our conversations these days are me saying "Christians believe..."

my dd is obsessed. DS had a tummy ache the other day and DD started praying for him - went on about 10 minutes, ending with 'bye bye God, and Amen too.'
We've talked about whether God exists and she reckons he doesn't because he is supposed to be everywhere therefore he must be invisible but nobody is invisible. However she is still constantly singing hymns etc.
We haven;t had the Devil yet though, fortunately.

oh and all through Easter she kept repeating the Easter story in gory detail including things like Jesus showing people the marks on his hands when he rose from the dead. DS kept chipping in with random things like 'And then Jesus ate the wibbly wobbly jelly.' Honestly, it's worth sending them to a church school just for the entertainment value....

I love it because dd seems to have this Father Christmas mentality about it all

Like this morning, she said "Mummy, do you believe in Noah's Ark?"

DS is quite religious, we go to church around Christmas and the odd family service in the winter. We really are seasonal ! However ds goes round singing Glory to God, and whenever he has to draw / do craft activities , frequently a cross appears. Last week he made a cross out of clay, so we could remember Jesus whenever all the time (gulp emoticon).

He does want us to say grace before every meal. But I've managed to get round this one saying he can do grace when we're all together. He's forgotten so far...

my dd arranged the velcro on her trainers in a cross shape on Easter day 'because Jesus died on the cross'

meatntattypie · 01/05/2010 21:34

lol we are going through the same with ds at the moment. in fact his teacher told us that he was vicar material as he has a "flair for anything religion related"
we burst out laughing as he has been described as evil all of his life!

he recently told us about the muslim faith and how the muslim people pray 5 times a day to a God called Allan.

bless him!
