Did your DCs stop their sleep in the day when they moved into a bed?

DS is 2.3. Still has a good sleep in the day but the sides really need to come off his cot. We have delayed it due to him probably getting up to play when he suppose to have his sleep in the day.

He always has his sleep and he definitely needs it, its also for my benefit as I have M.E. and I rest at this time too.

After speaking to friends whose DCs have moved into beds, none of them seem to be sleeping in the day anymore.

Did anyones DCs still sleep ok in the day when they were in their bed?

It was the other way round with my dd2 (she is 2.8 years and went into a bed about 3 weeks ago).

Prior to moving into her bed, she had (for a few months) told the cm she would prefer to sleep on the sofa (not the travel cot) and sometimes at home would settle better in the living room.

In our case she definitely still needs the sleep most days. Occasionally now if we have a day out she will make do with 20-30 minutes in buggy/car. I tend to wake her after an hour or so at home otherwise she is up having fun until 9pm when it is really bedtime for dcs in our house at 7.30 ish.

Didn't notice any difference. She was 18m when she went into a toddler bed and still hd a short sleep in day. By 2y she has given that up pretty much most days.

Also just to add my dd1 slept in the day until she was just past 3 years. I remember this well as I was in the early stages of a very nauseous pregnancy and was desperate for her to drop off and give me a break.

My dd was nearly 2 and when she moved into big bed and still occasionally has naps now and she is 4!!! Don't really ever remember it being an issue, only drop the nap when it starts playing havoc with them going to bed at an appropraite time IMO!!!

Coldhands · 29/04/2010 21:17

Glad to hear that DS going into a bed doesn't automatically mean he will drop his nap.

I think part of it seemed to be with children I knew is that they needed to be tireder at bedtime to go to sleep IYSWIM. So, it was either drop the nap or put bedtime back.

dairymoo · 29/04/2010 21:38

I had to lie down beside my DTs( 2.7) bed for a while after taking the sides of their cots, but that only lasted a week or two and they are back to napping on their own with no problem again now.

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 29/04/2010 21:48

Afraid my DS did stop his daytime nap virtually on the day he went into a bed, at around 2.5. He is now just 3, and still sleeps at nursery (typical) and if in the car, and often seems tired at home if he doesn't nap, so I think there was a definite psychological change of not being in a cot - a battle of wills which he realised he could win once he could get out of his bed.

No, but both of mine were very little when they went into a bed - 20months (both were cot escapees!) DS2 is not as great at sleeping in anymore, but a gate at the door really helped and he still has a hour or so after lunch.
