restricted play

I feel like my children need to be active and play as much as possible, yet am often met by public disapproval/ restricted time or limited space for this to happen. What do you think the effects are on children's behaviour to continually have their opportunity for play restricted?

Can you expand a bit more? I'm not sure I get what you mean.

I feel like you, rosieanna. I don't know what the long term effects would be but I'm sure some child psychologist somewhere will have an opinion. All I know is, most children love being outdoors exploring & it seems a natural instinct in most of them. I can't see how overly restricting this is going to do them any good.

I've heard that "experts" on child development believe there is a direct link between physical & intellectual development. It does worry me that modern children spend far too much time indoors in front of one screen or another. I feel sorry for them & wish they could have the freedoms I enjoyed in childhood.

Thank you for your feedback! I always notice a marked improvement if my children have been active outdoors for much of the day, or have been stuck indoors due to illness or bad weather. Unfortunately, cramped living conditions and busy lifestyles often restrict their ability to be outside or have the freedom to play, and I don't feel they are safe to let them go further afield unsupervised, which leaves me with a feeling that they are being held back all the time. I do worry that this is very frustrating for them.
