What do you do with your DCs whilst at home?

DS is 17 weeks old and due to finances im going to need to spend more time at home. When we are at home he seems to get grumpy and tired really easily & is sleeping quite a lot and so not really at night which also means im spending most of the day with my ass stuck to the sofa. We do walks to the park etc but i just wondered what everyone else does?

Hi,

Please don't read this and think I am a scrooge but I get a lot of enjoyment out of finding inexpensive things to do with my children!

Your local library will probably do a storytime or puppet time. Early Learning Centre has a play morning on a tuesday. Your nearest church or community centre will probably have a parent and toddler group that will be one or two pounds.

Contact your local children's services- they will probably have a bank of this information. But when we are at home we love playing with gloop ( mix cornflour and water and it makes a strange consistency!)

Hope this helps!!

17 week olds don't do much anyway. It gets better when they get older. Your HV will have a list of baby groups etc. But you need to get out every day otherwise you will go potty.

It gets easier when they are older

Your local surestart centre will run lots of groups/activities. We go to loads of free stuff, I paid for loads with DS but now DD go to mainly free or very cheap stuff and sorry to say I am more relaxed and enjoy it more because I am not paying a fortune to be there and therefore feel that the DC must enjoy it / benefit from it iykwim.

What about swimming that is not £££ and the local pools often have times for very little ones.

I spent a lot of time just walking with the buggy when DS was that age. Mind you that was mainly to get him to sleep!

At 17 weeks they don't do a lot as whomoved said, but I know I needed to get out and about to save my sanity. Wish I'd discoved my local toddler group sooner. Ask your HV, we had an under-one group at the health centre and baby massage classes for something like 50p a session. Even going to clinic can be an outing... (as long as you can put up with dodgy weaning/sleep related advice)
