Dd went on for aaaaaaaaaages. She was about 3! It drove me nuts. I used to have to check her mouth whenever we left friends houses. Once she had 12 plastic coins in there! .

I just used to keep saying "What's in your mouth? Is it food?" until she finally stopped.

oh no littlefish, don't tell me that!! another 2 years of this. 12 coins is impressive (if not scary!) in a tiny mouth mouth

My DD had definitely stopped by 2.......not that long before 2 though! It is such a pain........she almost managed to get a slug in there once.........

DS1 was never really one for putting stuff in his mouth - stopped what little he did do by 18 months. DS2 on the other hand is nearly 15 months and still going strong with chucking everything in his mouth - fully expecting him to be doing this until he's around 2 at least...

suiledonne · 26/04/2010 08:49

DD1 could have been left sitting in a pool of marbles and coins and would never put anything in her mouth.

DD2 on the other hand is 17 months and never stops. We went for a walk yesterday and every time I looked around there she was trying to eat gravel/leaves/stones, anything she could get her hands on.

I think at 10 months you probably have a bit of a way to go yet. Sorry

I've been wondering this too - 11 mo dd ate a snail on Saturday. Grass etc goes in on a regular basis, as does gravel. She is getting better at spitting things out to order though!

DD was really bad- especially since I had DS trailing tiny chokeables behind him. I can't remember when she stopped but she's 17 months and hardly ever does it anymore.

MrsJohnDeere · 26/04/2010 10:10

Ds1 never really did (very reluctanrt even to put food in his mouth).
Ds2, 2.2, still does (marbles, stones, mud....)

llynnnn · 26/04/2010 10:25

thanks for all the replies, however disconcerting they are lol!

ewww at eating a snail though! can see it happening though!!

my dd1 never did this either, but dd2 is totally the opposite!!

Both of mine stopped around 18 months, hopefully yours will to. DS2 even ate some of DS1's poo once!

Beasknees · 26/04/2010 14:18

they haven't and my dd is 4 and a bit

My DS has just turned 17 months and has been terrible for putting everything in his mouth since he was tiny (had to vacuum 3 times a day as every tiny bit on the floor would go in his mouth!). I am pleased to say that he has got a lot better in the last four or five months. He still tries to put things in his mouth, but now looks at me before doing so (waiting for me to say "no"!). He also knows his body parts now, so it helps that I can say "not in your mouth" and he knows where/what I mean! My DD was the same as my DS so have been dealing with this for what seems like years!!
