My 13m old DS drank the water from the toilet...

... can other MNetters reassure me that hospitalisation is not imminent? I have posted in General Health, but no replies.

He snuck into the loo and had his right hand in the loo water (just pee'd in by DS1). I'm fairly sure that he had a taste too... yuk, yuk yuk!

I'm guessing that a tummy bug is imminent? A doctor job if it happens? Anyone had any experience of this? Or am I alone in my slack mothering on this matter?

i suspect your DS will probably suffer no after effects what so ever.

Bert2e · 21/04/2010 22:21

He'll be fine!

Ds2 once sucked a poo encrusted 2 day old baby wipe and he's still here - think of it as expanding his immune system

PigeonPie · 21/04/2010 22:22

Can't leave your message unreplied! I wouldn't have thought it was too bad really. I'd have thought he might be a bit loose over the next couple of days. Anything worse, and contact your GP tomorrow.

Mine haven't actually drunk from the loo, but they've dropped things in it!

They're pretty resilient and bounce back from all sorts of things they eat - well in our house they do! Don't panic until something happens

onepieceoflollipop · 21/04/2010 22:24

I probably wouldn't worry too much.

(assuming you washed his hands afterwards?)

Sometimes if I am concerned about germs I give the dcs plenty of yogurts. Seriously, the pro-biotic sort. Probably no use by psychologically makes me feel I am helping.

However his antics will boost his immune system more than a few tubs of yeo valley quite possibly.

Oblomov · 21/04/2010 22:25

LOL . sorry but this is kind of funny. don't worry. he will be fine. don't blame yourself. don't worry. this is really really minimal.

AMumInScotland · 21/04/2010 22:27

Probably no problems at all - they say the average toilet seat is cleaner than the average chopping board. And drinking wee won't usually do you any harm, it's not full of the sort of germs that give you tummy bugs.

sandyballs · 21/04/2010 22:28

He'll be fine. I once caught my twins taking it in turns to lick the loo rim scented flush thing. I was convinced they would be poisoned, even rang NHS direct, but they were fine, not even a stomach upset.

onepieceoflollipop · 21/04/2010 22:30

sandy what flavour scent was the loo rim flush thing?

Leo35 · 21/04/2010 22:59

I have long joked that as DS2 is a 'chewer' that he would have a dip into the toilet bowl: and it came true. Never will I tempt fate again!

I'd have been much calmer if I thought that only his hands had been in it, but I'm pretty sure that he would have had a taste (he did with the water butt water in the watering can last week). I did wash them straight away. He was quite affronted that I had whisked him away from his new plaything. I'm going to have to be vigilant over the next few days!

On the plus side, he has experimented with eating all sorts of other revolting stuff: used tissues (used! double yuk), obvious things like last night's dinner on the floor (slack housekeeping icon) and things like car bumper dirt so that his immune system is in pretty good shape.

Oh and my slack housekeeping skills mean that I remember that I cleaned the loo last Wednesday, so my chopping boards are probably more clean that the loo in this instance!!

Thanks for the reassurance ladies. Love the story about your DTs licking the toilet freshner! The used baby wipe is pretty gross too!

Off to bed now. Culprit snoring soundly in his cot. I have located the sick bowl and spare bedding just in case.....

Hmm just read my last post back. Not coming over well in print are we, me and DS2?!

The other week I found DD2 18mths stood in the bathroom sucking on DS's pants which she'd dipped in the loo after he'd been. I was skeeved out, she was fine no ill effects whatsoever and DS got into trouble for not shutting the lid and flushing and also not getting his clothes back on.

Only a couple of days ago, DH asked if I'd seen the teeth imprints on the loo seat (wooden)! I went to look and there are clearly teeth gouges right on the rim where she's tried to use it as a very, very large teething ring! [vom]

lotster · 21/04/2010 23:08

I wouldn't worry.

Found my daughter aged 10 months brandishing a dead mouse that the dog had brought in from the garden. It had been poisoned by the neighbours so I had the fear somewhat. She was fine too

TheNextMrsDepp · 21/04/2010 23:11

Ha, very funny, kids, eh?! Don't worry at all, Leo, as my mum used to say "you need to eat a peck of dirt before you die". Mine enjoyed a nice lump of birdpoo, followed by a fag-butt picked off the grass in the park (ew!).

Ozziegirly · 22/04/2010 04:56

Apparently when I was a small child, my parents took me to Greece and the first thing I did was come out of the loo with the loo brush in my mouth.

So, not just poo, but stranger's poo.

I was fine, not even an upset tummy.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 22/04/2010 05:22

There exists a photograph of my husband as a todlder sucking on a toilet brush. His mother prioritised taking the photo over removing the brush.

No tummy bug there, either.

All normal on the nappy front, and no need for the sick bowl. Yet... Only revolting product this morning is his streaming nose, other than that he is a picture of health. May be all that scavenging for 'food' (dust balls anyone?) has hardened him up!

Love the stories on here the MIL who took the photo before removing the loo brush from your DH's clutches is a good 'un! Eeww about the phone vs loo seat in cleanliness stakes! No, no bleachy blocks in the loo here - have to say have put a good jet of harpic around. And closed the lid, and the door, and the stairgate!

I feel your angst.............

My 2 cries at the moment are 'is the stair gate shut'
and 'are the toilet seats down'

DD never flushes or puts lid down (yuck), DH flushes but never puts the lid down.

Found DS (12mths) fishing toilet paper out of the toilet after DD had been.

Glad your LO is OK!

SuperAmoo · 23/04/2010 11:44

peeed myself laughing at loobrush in mouth. Great stories! glad your DS is ok. My 10 mnth DD2 ate a stick and then a daisy followed by some sand at the park yesterday.
