most of my family is in germany where height is checked each time at the develpmental check. And of course they bugger ask me all the time how tall my kids are.
I wonder of course if height and weight should better be mesures together as a better indication of growth? Is there a good reason why it is not routinely measured?
When my family gets too annoying I get the tape measure out

I was told by a HV at the regular check that they didn't bother before age 2 as it was difficult to get an accurate measurement, because the children either couldn't stand straight or wouldn't. So they mostly didn't bother.

But under a certain height, there is a measure that they lie the child down on, so there is no need for a child to stand up. I think it's just a faff.

Height is an excellent measure of development, though, since the body would not waste resources growing if it could not spare them! Fat can be just storage, a body hoarding supplies against a lean future (pardon the pun).

Even lying down though, a baby can be stretched out or a bit squinched up from one visit to the next.

exactly Octavia - and they don't tend to lie with their legs straight before they're walking anyway - so it's a bit of a nonsense measurement, even if you pull their legs straight.

same here in sweden. the hv pulls the legs a bit and puts a board to them and mum or dad holds head straight on another board and there is a metrestick between them foot board obviously moveable. It is pretty accurate and Was very useful when my DS was a baby as otherwise I would have thought he was obese but he was just big for his age!!

My hv told me they used to measure height more frequently but new guidelines from paediatricians said it was not good for babies to be stretched out like that me thinks she just didn't want to do it
