15 mo forgotten how to walk?! Teething-related??

My dd2 is nearly 15mo and she's been walking confidently since Christmas. She's been having quite a difficult time with teething over the last week or so, as her molars and canines all seem to be coming through at once.

For the last 3 days she's been incredibly clingy & basically has wanted to be carried all the time, which is fine by me (most of the time!), but I've also noticed that on the rare occasions when she is happy to be put down, she seems to have forgotten how to walk & has reverted to crawling. Has anybody else experienced this? Does it sound like normal teething hell, or should I take her to the doctors? I never ever normally bother with doctors, but it does seem a bit weird.

Dd1 has just come down with chickenpox, so I guess it's not impossible that dd2 is experiencing the early symptoms....

No that seems odd to me, I would take the child to the gp.

I know of children who have been seriously ill (meningitis) and have regressed by about 6 months in the space of a week and then taken about 6 months to catch up , but not over something like teething. I'm not trying to frighten you by saying this, but I would get your dc checked over.

It is probably worth getting checked out, but also worth bearing in mind that children often 'drop' a skill they've mastered when they're working on something else - talking, for example. For some reason they'll often do walking or talking development but not both at once! It's also possible she may have decided that being carried around is less effort than walking! Worth getting checked out though as she may be feeling ropey if she's coming down with c-pox.

I would get it checked out if I were you to rule out anything serious, but to reassure you DD had this around the same age - we went to the hospital (who xrayed her etc) couldn't find anything wrong and deduced that she had a virus it had 'settled' in her hip. So you could be right about the c-pox.

She is now nearly 4 and runs around like a loon most of the day. Hope she get's better soon.

Definately worth a trip to the GP.
Our DS started walking at 12 months and then suddenly stopped and was very similar to your story. We discovered he had a horrible ear infection (leaking out-yuk)and that caused the disinterest/inability to walk. I think the ear infection may have been to do with him teething. He started walking again at 14 months and hasn't looked back since!
