Dropping milk feeds

Hi,

We have been weaning our nearly 6mo ds for the last three weeks & whilst I know its too early just yet I wondered when people started dropping the milk feeds. He currently has:

7am milk
8/8.30 ish - cereal
11ish - milk
2/2.30 - milk
5.30/6 - milk & tea
7.45 - bedtime milk

We are thinking of starting him on some food around lunchtime but wondered if it was best to try & keep milk & meals separate - he doesnt seem to have any problem having both together at teatime but am wondering if it might make things easier in the long run to try & keep them apart. Thanks

Not really sure the best way to do it, we managed, but I wouldn't call it successful parenting!
The health visitor was concerned about DS eating very little and recommended we drop all but morning and night feeds. He went mental. For weeks.
We did end up watering down formula (I know, a big no no) to try and trick him when he wanted milk in the middle of the day, but he wasn't impressed. We got through it in the end, but there were a lot of tantrums.
I'm due a second baby in July, so I'll be interested to see other peoples responses and if there is anything in there to help me second time around.

p.s. DS is now 36 months and still demands milk first thing in the morning and last thing at night!

My son is 9 months, and he has been steadily drinking less over the last month or so. So we still give him milk 4 times a day (7-8, 12, 3.30 and 6.45 ish) but have reduced the amount. We have completely followed his lead. I wondered how/when it would happen but it was obvious because he would just fuss over the end of the bottle, or turn away and fall asleep! So if your child still wants it, give it to him, I say!

Oh he gets 3 meals a day (8, 12 and 5.30), BLW. Has only just started really eating as opposed to just playing with food - I suppose it's all coincided!

I wonder if Shaz's experience is fairly typical? Might explain why HV was shocked to find that DS still drank 7x14oz bottles a day at 18 months!!
She said it wouldn't have been a problem if he was eating properly too, but he was losing weight.
He now eats very well, but it took a while of tears and feeling like a very mean mummy. I think cutting down whilst they are younger might be more sensible.

at 6 months our day looked like this:

7am - milk
8am - breakfast
11am - milk
12pm - lunch
2.30pm - milk
5pm - dinner
7.15pm - milk
in the night till 8 months - milk

Ds dropped the night feed at 8 months, was at 3 feeds from 9 months and 2 feeds by 10 1/2 months. The daytime feeds were replaced with a snack and drink of water. I dropped the feeds when he started taking less milk at them.
