18 month old: poo flinging

hi there,

my gorgeous, generally easy going and placid 18 month dd has started behaving in a way i find difficult to manage during nappy change.

it is generally only with a pooey nappy although sometimes also with a wet nappy. basically she wants to tear the nappy off- and along with any paper towel/ whatever might be underneath- throw it across the room- and typically she does!

even i can hear the note of hysteria in my voice as i say 'no! no! no!!!!'. yesterday i actually shouted, 'mummy is VERY UPSET'- she in turn found this hilarious, which on reflection both relieves me and engenders my respect somehow...

but i dont know what to do to persuade her to stop. my traditional 'discipline' technique is distraction/ adaption (eg we cosleep as she is a bit of a nightmare sleeper otherwise) but this is not proving effective. i tried shutting myself in the bathroom for 30 seconds- however this made her cry and i don't want to set up complicated poo/ abandonment issue? but i dont want poo all over my walls and floors and clothes either!

any advice gratefully received...

I get my dd1 aged six to hold ds's hands (he is also 18 months) when changing a dirty nappy otherwise he would stick his hands in it and it would go all over the place.

Apart from that, don't know what to advise!
