Hello All,

I have a 10 week old baby and up until he was 6 weeks old I was using the Johnsons Tip to Toe bath time product in the bath to wash his body and hair with. He was fine with that, no irritation or reaction but when I mentioned it in passing to the health worker, she was appauled and reacted as though I'd been washing my son in sulphuric acid. She said that babies shouldn't have any products anywhere near them for the first year, so I stopped. However, as much as I like the smell of my DS, his head is smelling a little less than fresh and i'd quite like to use something organic and gentle at bath time as I'm sure just war water alone isn't getting all his nooks and crannies clean?

Does anyone have any product recommendations, or should I stick with what the HV says and just carry on using water alone?

I tend to use water mostly and a little drop of Johnsons Top to Toe if DD is smelling a little grotty. She doesn't get dirty enough to need "washing" every night. I only put her in the bath because its part of DS's bedtime routine and works well with signaling that bedtime in near. DS had terrible eczema as a baby but DD seems clear so far with this routine.

HV's will advise you to use nothing but water in the bath and no fabric conditioner with your washing to protect their delicate skin. A little now and again is not the end of the world though.

Boots stock some lovely organic baby washes. You could try one of those if you want to be extra careful

Just carry on with it if his skin is OK. Sometimes you need more than water to wash away the poo, wee and vom!
Just use it sparingly so his skin doesn't dry out.
HVs also reccomend using cotton wool balls instead of baby wipes... what a faff!!

Babies do not need washing everyday. It isnt very good because it washes the natural oils away from the skin.

The only part I would use detergent on is the hair but only if it needs it.

Boots stock a great selection of organic nice smelling stuff.

Bath time doesnt need to be part of a bed time routine. Although if you only have one child it uses up the time before bed.
