7 month old sleep problems & clingy

My 7 month old son has been a real dream up to now and hardly been any trouble at all, he has a really pleasant happy demeanour & never cries unless near feeding time or bedtime. he also started sleeping through the night about 2 months ago, from 7 - 8 pm ish thro to 7 - 8 am.
However the last 2 weeks or so he is waking in the night a couple of times for half hour or more and altho he is not crying he is just chatting to himself in bed for most of that time, it is seriously disturning my sleep & he eventually cries so I go and give him his dummy & he goes off again.
In addition he is having tantrums in the daytime too, as if he is being clingy and not wanting me to leave his sight but then at other times he is doing it when i am in sight and nothing consoles him for a little while.
I have read the advice on clingy babies & try peek a boo etc etc & tried taking him verywhere with me too but as I say this sometimes makes no difference. I am wanting to know mainly if anyone knows why he might be doing this? People have said possibly teething but he doesn't look like he is cutting any yet altho he has been very drooly for a couple of months.
Also does anyone have any advice on why he might be waking so much in the night or anything I could do to help stop this.

Could be lots of things, growth spurt, teething, separation anxiety, developmental stage, little tummy bug or cold.

The thing I've discovered about babies and toddlers is that these changes never last long and they'll do another U-turn and change again a soon as you've got used it.

Hi mumtojoe, has there been any change or anything? One of my 7-month-old twins has started doing exactly the same thing, but the other one is fine. She also went berserk the other day when I took my glasses off, even though she sees me without them regularly. Have you come across any good tips or has it sorted itself out?
