Holding it in until nappy on for nap

Hi Am on day 3 of potty training DD aged 2.6. Been going steadily downhill since day one to the point now where she is holding in the wee and poo until I put her nappy back on for nap time.

Anyone else had this? What did you do? am tempted to give in thinking she's not ready but all the other signs are there and my next baby is due in 9 weeks so I want to get it done asap!

To be honest I think I would perservere. If she can hold in her wee and poo then she can be potty trained........it's just a question of trying to persuade her!

Are you using potty or toilet? I would recommend letting her choose a nice potty or special seat for the toilet, along with some nice pants featuring whoever she's into (My DD went for Peppa Pig!!) Then I would go down the sticker chart or rewards route I think. If after doing all that she's still not interested then I would leave it for a bit. I think it's quite important to remain casual about the whole thing and not put any pressure on her to perform.......If she's anything like my DD, constant nagging will achieve the opposite of what you want to achieve

DD1 did this. until the day I did't put a nappy on at all. she held it in the entire day until I locked us both into the bathroom at bathtime. she had a huge paddy, involving biting the loo seat and at the point of bursting I sat her on the loo.
never looked back. never had a single accident.

I'm on day 14 with DS 2 at 2.6! He wouldn't even sit on teh loo on day one. I decided to give ourselves two intensive weeks to see if we could crack it. I just dumped the nappies! On day one he had three accidents and by bath time he did his first wee on the loo. Each day got better until we were having no accidents, as long as we got to him quickly in the morning when he woke up. On day 10 he started telling us he needed to go. We're now on day 14 and have had two totally dry days and nights with DS2 telling us he needs when he needs to go! Hooray! I once overheard someone say that the trick is to wait until you're ready!

I wouldn't put the nappy on for a nap - just put some towels or absorbant sheets on the bed in case of accidents.

Perseverence is the key - we are three weeks in and maybe only one accident this week. took us the first week to get a poo in the pot though .....

Agree heavens to betsy!!

This is brilliant, really encouraging, thanks everyone. DD has Peppa pig loo seat, lola knickers, nice red potty, reward chart with gold star stickers and easter egg treats for any "hits" - but seeing as she holds it in for so long we've only had 3 in 3 days!

DH goes back to work tomorrow - will try the casual approach heth1980 - will keep you updated...
