My daughter won't stop crying - please help

My one year old daughter starts screaming and crying every time I put her down. Ive gone up about six times now, shes had a nappy change, milk, cuddles, everything...and shes still up there screaming her head off. Every time I pick her up, she falls asleep in my arms, then screams as soon as ive put her down.

Im starting to get really angry and stressed.
I feel like screaming myself :-(

Is that unusual for her? Does she normally sleep in her cot ok?
Maybe she is not feeling well. Could she come into your bed?

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 02/04/2010 00:32

Have you checked her temperature?
Could you lie in your bed with her by yourside?
Have you tried putting her in her cot whilst she's still awake so it's not such a shock for her when you move?

meadow6 · 02/04/2010 00:34

I'm not diagnosing, but the last time that happened to me was when Dd3 was about 9 months. She would sleep when held, cry the minute I put her down. Literally had to hold her all night- turned out to be burst ear drum.

Cherrybaby · 02/04/2010 00:35

ive tried everything. and this isnt normal for her.

Fucking hubbys phone not answering!

Does she have a temp? Will she take calpol?

Cherrybaby · 02/04/2010 00:39

no temp.............................................

OP posts:
BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 02/04/2010 00:40

Is she teething?

meadow6 · 02/04/2010 00:41

I would just hold her for a while if that keeps her settled. I'm afraid with 4 I've had a few long nights where that has happened.

Cherrybaby · 02/04/2010 00:42

i dont know...

shes got afew teeth but i thought she'd stopped teething for now.
Sorry I sound so incompetent. Shes my first, but I have had her for a year so I should know better.

I would second that it could be a problem with her ears...DS had the most horrendous ear infection (only found out whne the doc looked in his ears) at about 1yo. He had no other symptoms, like a temp or pulling at his ears.

Would you consider giving her a dose of Calpol just to see if it works

Keep the lights down and also try (I know, easy for me to say!!)to keep as calm as possible)

if she's not going to go off by herself tonight dfon't feel bad about her being in your bed or holding her to sleep if it isnt the norm.

May be worth seeing if she wants a drink as after all the screaming and crying they can get all dry throated and dehydrated

Hope she's calmer soon

meadow6 · 02/04/2010 00:44

It's si stressful when they are like that. How is she now?

Valpollicella · 02/04/2010 00:47

Cherry, I felt excalty the same way with DS (he was such a crier/screamer, and my first), I used to get sooo stressed.

Even though you've had her a year, nothing stays the same....so there's always something new, day to day, week to week, month to month that changes and you think 'what the fresh hell...??'

Have you got any Calpol?

Is she overheating because of the crying? I mean getting all sweaty?

Like Meadow says, just hold her. You won't be making any rods and all that crap.

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 02/04/2010 00:47

gecko did this about 4 weeks ago, shes three though but it was her ear

hope your ok

maybe just give up on trying to be downstairs and snuggle up in bed with her

OprahWinfrey · 02/04/2010 00:49

Cherrybaby if it makes it easier, just hold her for now.

It sort of reminds me of my ds. He became very attached and clingy around that stage. I had a terrible time trying to get him to go to sleep on his own. He wanted to be rocked to sleep. .....The mistakes I made ..... I miss those days now though

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 02/04/2010 00:54

I'd second a bit of calpol, climb into your bed with her if this helps, if your bed is against a wall then put her on the inside between you and the wall so she doesn't roll off.

Cherrybaby · 02/04/2010 00:55

Ive just given her some calpol and a drink ... thank God so shes snuggled up with him....She seems alot calmer...thanks everyone hugs all around

Theres a big lump in my throat and I feel really ...shaken. Its the first time shes ever done this, as since birth shes been a very settled and content little girl - Just as well, given my over the top reaction!

I meant Hubbys here thank God - probably drove 100 mph after a freaked out call from me....

It's OK, you are not over the top. They don't come with a detailed instruction book (I wish they did sometimes)

meadow6 · 02/04/2010 00:59

Hope you have a settled night. Maybe get her ears checked in the morning. Earache tends not to bother babies until they are in bed and mine never had any other symptoms just up alot at night. Once earache had gone they were sleeping as normal.

Cherrybaby · 02/04/2010 01:04

Thanks Belle and meadow...I'll definitely get her ears checked tomorrow.

all get into bed together, cuddle and sleep x

Valpollicella · 02/04/2010 01:04

Don't worry about feeling shaken! Glad she is settled now.

If it makes you feel any better, DP went out one afternoon and eve when DS was about 3 mo. So still at the colickly, feeding all the time, not sleeping much stage.

DS slept the whole time. I freaked out Couldn't wake him (all fine obv, but was just fast asleep for 4/5 hours).

Cue frantic internet searching (where I eneded up almost taking advice from a certain guru's site about waking sleeping babies...)

By the time DP got home i was a mess. Ds then woke up and spent all night up.

Worrying is normal! Even now things happen and I think, omg, not had to deal with his before...help!

Wishing you a good night's sleep!

lol val, you sound like me! When my DD was born, that night I spotted a little wet patch beneath her head and I went running (well, as fast as I could with a piss bag and stitches), to find the midwife: I thought her body fluids might be silently draining away, to leave an empty and dehydrated to death baby. How morbid right???
WHell, I had had a fourteen hour labour, with gas and air, two pethidines and a spinal block (that was to prep me for a c section but then she decided to make a leisurely entrance)....
