If your DC has used an acitvity nest but couldn't roll or crawl

Could they get out of it by themselves? My friend wants somewhere safe she can quickly pop her DD whilst she nips out of the room for a few minutes without taking up all the living room with a travel cot or playpen. I said it might be OK cos DS couldn't get of his until he crawled and his little friend used to roll out.

I often left dd on activity mat or in bouncy chair. No prob. Good to get into habit of saying "mummy is just going upstairs, back in a minute" now even if it seems silly because it helps them to understand that you leaving is only temporary ie when she hears those words, mummy always comes back. rather than just leaving without saying anything. Waffle, waffle ....

Playpen doesn't take up that much more room than a nest though and is much safer.

DD is 11m and crawling. I leave her on her own quite a bit, though for v short amounts of time. If I leave her on one side of the living room I know I have time to go to the loo before she can get anywhere!

We actually used a travelcot as a playpen, which was V. handy for popping DS in while we nipped to the loo. Before he could roll over or crawl, we just left him on his activity mat, but as soon as he could move around he went into that. Far safer than coming down and finding him wedged awkwardly somehow.

We also used to let him nap in the middle of our bed, with pillows either side of him until he could move about. But that's because we're on three floors in this house, and didn't want him two flights of stairs away. I wouldn't recommend it normally. (But he never came to any harm, so it is sort of relevant.)

bouncing chair probably takes the least amount of space out of all of them? i leave my ds on his play mat too though, should be fine?

We had a playnest when my DS was about 5mo, but he used to push his feet against it and flip himself out of it! It ended up in the garage after a few weeks.

NinthWave Was he able to roll over, crawl or bum shuffle at the time?

If she can't roll or crawl, surely your friend can just put her down on a rug?
