Help! Kneeling on the buggy board : (

I know this is a ridiculously small problem, but I wondered if anyone could help my gorgeous little man work out that he needs to stand on the bloody thing buggy board!

DS1 is 21 mths and DS2 5 mths - DS2 doesn't really like the double buggy and DS1 loves to walk so we are trying to put DS2 in the Maclaren and get DS1 used to the buggy board. He loves it but totally refuses to stand on it, as soon as you lift him he picks his legs up and drops his knees onto it, and when he climbs on himself he also kneels!

Buggy boards are hard enough on your back as it is, but with DS1 sticking his little feet off the back, I'm bent double!

Any experience/ideas?

21 months is imo far too young for a buggy board. I really don't think it's fair or safe for him. Get a good sling for the baby and let your toddler sit in the buggy. It will be better for your back than leaning over a buggy board too. Try an Ergo.

spongebrainbigpants · 28/03/2010 22:23

Thanks for that - interesting thought. We have got a sling actually, but when I was expecting DS2 lots of people told us not to bother with a double buggy and use a buggy board - DS1 was 16 mths at the time!

The sling issue is one we're exploring at the moment (trying out a Connecta but that's a whole other thread! ).

What age is a buggy board meant for then?

Get DS1 to sit on buggyboard, bottom on one side legs out straight and feet the other side, so he is travelling sideways, holding on to buggy

Why is 21 months far too young?

My DD1 just turned 2 last week and she loves her buggy board. We've been using it for around a month now, so not quite 21 months, but 23.

What does he say when you explain to him that he's supposed to stand rather than kneel on the board?

Could you ask him to watch his brother for you? DD1 loves to watch her sister, although we have either a carrycot or a carseat on the pram wheels, so they are facing each other.

I don't think 21 months is too young, my ds2 was using one on and off from then (18 months between him and ds3) but it depends on the child. ds1 was a lazy walker so was happier in the double buggy (18 months between him and ds2) until he got evicted at 3yrs when ds3 arrived.

No idea what to suggest, ds2 (now 27 months) has taken to 'scooting' off the back of the buggy board or wanting to sit on it. To be honest I just refuse to have him on it unless he stands and holds on, failing that he has one of those wrist strap things and has to walk, I let him choose, he usually gets on buggy board properly after that.

no way is that too young. I know bugaboo have an amazing seat (like a fishing stool)that fits on the boogy board, it has saved my life with my 23 month old daughter. dont know if you can fit it to other boards

JackRabbitBauer · 28/03/2010 22:59

I actually got litaf seat and go thing here when DD1 was about that age.
It meant that when her legs were too tired to walk she could sit down or stand.
I ebayed my normal board after one trip with this.

Thanks everyone.

skidoodly, he's not v verbal at the mo so doesn't say much tbh!

the litaf seat looks interesting though, I will investigate and see if there are any going cheap on ebay - it might suit him better
