I liked his views on McDonalds - as soon as you go through those golden arches you realise your children aren't the worst behaved children in the world.

It was the only child care book that I actually liked - I don't remember the bit about door tying though.

I liked it and refer back on occasions; I like the humour and the general suggestion that toddlers are like they are because of development, plus it makes me see myself differently. Maybe I'm more prepared to judge myself critically? EG, when it suggests some bad behaviour is attention seeking, and ds throws a tantrum, I check to see if I had been unrealistic in my expectations of him or had been "ignoring him". Not sure if I'm making sense......I'm not advocating 100% attention all the time, but I also can't expect him to amuse himself for 2hrs while I chat to friends on the phone. It reminds me to apply reasonable behavioural expectations to my child rather than adult ones, like attention span.

Jim Yes that does make sense
Don't get me wrong, I am more than capable of juding myself critically, but reading a few chapters of this book made me feel really crap so wanted to see what others thought.
earlier in the thread, some people suggested The Incredible Years by Caroline Webster Stratton. I have ordered this and it should be here Thursday. Very excited
