are there any signs2look out4if dd has got hypermobility?or is it something the dr or physio would pick up when they see her?
dp bought her a baby walker2see if that would help her any.shes not making any effort2move in it tho as yet.
we might just be worrying over nothing.anyone else have any ideas?

My dd didn't walk until 30 months for no reason.

thisisyesterday · 24/03/2010 12:41

does your baby do anything else? crawling? pulling herself up? cruising round furniture?

thisisyesterday · 24/03/2010 12:41

i think the average age for walking is something like 13-16 months, so some will walk earlier and some later, so i wouldn't be too concerned unless she is behind in other areas too

The sins for hypermobility is that you have got hypermobile joints, that is joints that bend further and in different directions to what joints normally do a child of that age. It's something that is easily checked once you know what you're looking for, but equally something a doctor could miss if they're not thinking along those lines, so won't hurt to ask dr to check for it.

I agree that a trip to the GP might be a good idea. She's probably just late to move for no reason and just fine but it's worth getting it checked so you can get some help/advice if there is some kind of underlying problem. Do you have any other worries about her development?

babyjane67 · 24/03/2010 19:52

no in everything else she seems fine.chatters on alot, says few proper words.loves2do the actions2nursery rhymes etc as much as she can.feeds herself etc.
my mum keeps asking if shes saying anyones name yet&she isnt but not sure if thats anything2really worry about@this stage.
so really its just the late walking thats a worry

I would be careful with the baby walker, DS has specific problems and our physio and Dr's were very against walkers. They do not teach babies to weight bear or move their legs and feel properly. In a baby with no issues it makes no difference as the baby learns anyway, but if there is a problem it can teach the child the wrong way which is then very hard to undo.

our dd didn't do anything in terms of crawling, shuffling or cruising when she was referred to a specialist at 17 months. She then had physio, started to crawl at 18 months, then progressed to walk at 22 months. Everything else was absolutely fine with her development. She has low muscle tone and was extremely flexible. She can now (4 yrs)climb, jump, go to dancing etc. It just took her a bit longer to get there and she will probably never be very athletic. Our younger child has just had her referral at 12 months as she was displaying similar tendencies. She also has low muscle tone, but not to quite the same extent. The physio was happy to let us just get on with it this time as she is not so delayed. Glad to get her seen though.

If she is happy and not frustrated chances are she is just going to be a 'late walker'. Most children walk by 2 yrs some are just a bit later.

I agree though that if you have concerns see the GP thats what they are there for.
