when do they need pillows...?!

I admit this may seem trivial but am wondering when it is right/ advisable to add a low pillow to my 2.4 year old ds's bed arrangement? since taking him out of his grobag he sleeps on his back, snores like a horse! wondering whether a pillow would make him a bit less snorty/ more comfortable.
He also has an awful cough right now, which thinking of how I would feel might be alleviated by a pillow.
As I said not exactly a show-stopping question but grateful for any intel about whether they're a good idea or whether it will suffocate him, warp his neck and spine for ever, other such rational worries

Pillows are fine from one year onwards. Just make sure you get a really flat one. My DS1 had one from 11 months old and he loves patting it into place and snuggling into it at bedtime.

I was planning on giving DD a pillow when she got to one - I hope that's ok. (she's 10 months now) - she constantly tries to shuffle onto mine when she comes into our bed and will use teddies etc. to try to make her own in her cot!

I don't think they ever need them - just preference and as you say probably good for when they're snuffly.

The standard advice is from 12 months onwards; my 23 month old sleeps with one.

We gave DD a pillow at about 18 months.....she used to throw it straight back out of the cot or just shuffle down out of the way of it for a couple of months, but loves it now.
