15 month old not pointing or waving...

15 month old dd is not pointing or waving. I have read that pointing is a key development milestone so am getting increasingly concerned. Should I be worried?

She doesn't wave either but can clap. She doesn't say any clear words yet but babbles alot. She says dada and mmmmmmm but not to the specific parent. No other words than this.

In other ways she is affectionate coming up to me for a cuddle, responds to her name, enjoys being with other babies.

Its the pointin, waving and no words that really worry me... any advice would be welcome. I seem to be working myself up in to a ball of stress... the more I read the more I see that she should be doing all this by now.

Hey everyone
Alekya how is your LO doing ?
My DS who was born at 36wks and is now at 16 months is in a similar situation. He will occasionally say Dada when dada is present and occasionally will say mama. he'll babble at airplanes when he sees them. He has great eye contact and understands A LOT. if I ask for a specific toy he will bring it to me. he will often Pick a book out and will bring it to me so I can read it to him. Hes recently learned to wave and clap his hands last month. hes learned High five at 9 months. However his gestures are limites and I'm growing very worried. He still does not point at anything even though i point at nearly everything and really doesn't try to get our attention. He is very attached to us and shows interest in other kids when at the library or a park. His pediatrician isn't worried. But I can't help being worried about ASD. I'm hoping and praying he picks up pointing soon and his vocabulary explodes. Some reassurance from everyone will give me some hope.

To those who have commented on this more recently, my little boy was exactly the same. He started very occasionally clapping at about 13 months but with no other gestures and no words. At about 18 months (possibly a bit later) he started pointing and waving but still only had about 8 words by the time he turned 2. Then it was like he suddenly decided he needed to sort himself out and almost overnight started talking. He is now 2.5 and does not shut up! I got myself really lost in holes of googling and convincing myself he had asd and all he needed was a little more time to get there at his own pace 🙂 xxx

I am in a similar boat. My 15m outgrown in physical development very early by starting to walk, run and climb stairs. However, since one of our friend point out his ignorance when calling him, we got more concerned and seeing more unusual things.

I am listing few here

  • No clapping
  • Waves hand half time when we ask and half time randomly when he wants!
  • same thing when we call him by name.
  • walks mostly straight but switch to tippy toe sometimes.
  • used to say mamma, dada but seems to forgot

Few things he is good at

  • plays with siblings, knows how to play toys
  • now he is babbling but i am concerned if its normal or not

Doctor want to be cautious and recommended speech and development regression assessment and also based on family history asked to do autism assessment.

I am really concerned and wondering if he is really have any issue or has anyone see them pickup these things at later age.

Thanks
GS

My little girl who is 14 months nearly 15 months points and says mama , dad , mum, nana and wilMa ( our dogs name) but she doesn’t wave . She will smile at others and interact well with other children and adults. But still no waving . Should I be worried?
