Flat head - 6 weeks old - Goi Goi pillow?

My 6 week old dd is getting quite a bad flat head. She does prefer to sleep on this side and I cant get her change it!

The hv recommended a Goi Goi pillow today - Anyone used it? Does it work?

No advice re the pillow, but my ds had a very flat head as he always wanted to sleep with his head the same way, and it sorted itself out.

Hi - its not called Goi Goi anymore, just do a Google search for "Lilla Kuddis pillow" which is what they go by now.

Yep, I've got two for my DS - he can't sleep without it now its so comfy! He started getting a flat head around 8 weeks old (he's now 10 mths) and I feel it was responsible for halting it. I bought two like I said - one for his cot and one for his pram. I even took one into hospital when he was very sick at 5 mths (but thats another story!)

They're great and look much more comfortable than those other heart shaped things you can buy to supposedly stop flat head! Well worth the money!

Actually - here's the website for you:

Hope you like them!

We had one as well for DS, never found them a problem (except they went a bit lumpy when washed...). Crib size was great for pram or playmat when he was wee, then we had larger one for cot - but by that point you could probably use a normal pillow (so long as it's not too 'fat'). Cheaper than cranial osteopathy! (not that I regret doing that either, I think DS quite enjoyed it).

Try to get tummy time established too - DS was rubbish with this, he only wanted to sit more upright and see the world and didn't develop the neck strength to lift his head when on his front - which I think then put him off bothering/trying to crawl. Perhaps. Maybe. Who knows... but next time I'll persevere with tummy time more!

Before investing in anything, I would see a physio to make sure that there is no reason for her favouring one side.

My dd had torticollis en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torticollis which meant that having her head facing one way was more comfortable than having it face the other way.

She had fairly bad positional plagiocephaly en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positional_plagiocephaly as a result. Thankfully, with the correct exercises we managed to loosen her neck muscles & get her moving to all sides comfortably.

About 95% corrected now!

We used a pillow for ds1 and it made a huge difference. Now is the best time to do this. Please don't wait for it to sort itself out. It may not and then your options are much more limited.

Thanks all. I will buy one today I think.

I turned her round in her crib last night to see if that made a difference and she did sleep on the other side for a while - The side closest to me.

It is looking quite bad though and the Hv noticed it before I said anything which has made me worry more.

Thanks again, I hope the pillow works for us.

Interesting as well about her seeing a physio - We have our 6 week check on tomorrow so I will see why my GP says.

I think it's good that HVs are recognising the problem at last to be honest. My DS1 is 6 and STILL has a lop-sided head - the health visitor and GP were insistent when he waas a baby that he would grow out of it when mobile and it would correct itself. but it didnt.

So when DS2 was born I did my research especially as he ONLY ever slept with his head to one side. And I mean he NEVER would stay with it the other way, only for about 2 mins. The most miraculous thing was a couple of cranial osteopath appointments. 30 quid a time but god, were they worth it. After either the first or second appointement (can't remember), DS2 was really crying that day at bedtime and I thought the osteopath was the worst thing I'd ever done!!! But after calming down and going to sleep I was absolutely amazed that he slept ALL night and when I went into his room the next morning, he was still asleep with his head to the other side for the first time ever.

I really think that the Cranial osteopath loosened up something in his neck. It was honestly a miracle! But I also looked into the goigoi (as it was called then) and bought one of those, but wished I'd bought it sooner actually. Both that pillow and the osteopath put his problem right (and his head was starting to go really bad quite quickly). I just wish that I'd not listened to the HV and the GP with DS1, and gone with my own instinct that it WOULDN'T correct itself. (poor DS1, if he ever goes bald he's going to look really odd.....)

I have found a Cranial Osteopath in my town and am going to give it a go.

How many sessions did you go to?
