Disruptive behaviour: common with 2 yr olds

Hi, I was just wondering if this behaviour is common or at odds with 2.7 years old.

At times he can play lovely - definitely with his sibling and also outside but inside he can be really disruptive to others children. It does not matter if we are are our house or at other people's houses. He will take their toys for the fun of it or simply ruin their game - standing on train tracks, bash into them etc.

He also flitters from one toy to another, he can play with a toy for 5- 10 mins but normally just flitters especially when other children are around. He does love books and will sit thr a few.

Had anyone's toddler been like this?

my son is like this and he is 2.2yrs old, i think its very normal, i wouldn't worry tbh.
I just try to calm him when he gets too worked up, and smile, try not to get to shouty lol that just makes him worse!

good luck

Does anyone think this is normal? He does not seem to be growing out of this? He is now 2.10 and I really starting to worry.

I think as a general rule if at times a 2 year old can be lovely they are fine!!
Real issues regarding behaviour are when your LO is disruptive all of the time, can not follow ANY instructions or never responds to behaviour management.

They are bloody hard work!

Clare123 · 28/06/2010 22:41

He definitely can follow instruction and does respond to time out................but it's such a slow process.

Have you read Toddler Taming? Well worth a read after a bad day!

Mine is 2.1 and is like this. I had a report yesterday from Nursery he had been pushing and shoving and today he has been fine. I'm not worried and I hope you won't get too worried about it too

Short attention-span, snatching toys and mindlessly messing up games are all fairly normal for two year-olds. But, as they get into their threes and onwards nearer school age they should be learning (from you) to behave better with others and their attention-span should gradually increase.

Correct any naughty behaviour promptly and regularly and encourage calm, constructive activites at the same time. Good luck
