Nasty medicine refusal

Has anyone got any tips for getting penicillin syrup into my 13 month old DD. The last spoonful went up her nose, in her eyes, her hair, her ears and down her front but not a drop made it into her mouth !

We've got 4 times a day for 9 more days

I've thought about cutting it with Calpol but I fear that is not a strategy I should come to rely on.

Any ideas ??

1.Give choc immediately before hand, so that her mouth is full of the choc when it goes in.

2.Use a syringe medecine dispenser, not a spoon.

3.Give another choc as soon as she has swallowed it.

Mix it into yoghurt, I use petit filous. I'm currently having the same problem with my DS. He should be taking it on an empty stomach, but there's no chance. HTH .

  • be fast and firm
  • might be job for 2 adults
  • use medicine syringe and pop into back of one cheek; she will go 'gulp' before she knows it (she'll hate you, but she'll swallow )
  • use chocolate bribe - Nutella worked a treat here .

Ribena works well for hiding vile taste as well - although Flucloxacillin will 'shine' through anything... gah!
