She has taken to talking in the most annoying falsetto voice all the time. I think the only one who can understand her is the dog and its driving me potty.
Has anyone else child done this?
I ask her to talk in her proper voice but she just talks quieter, it's like shes forgotton how to.
Please don't tell me this is it!

How many adults do you know who talk like this?

It's a phase. A bloody irritating one...

mejon · 15/03/2010 21:27

Mine is the same age and used to do the exact same thing a couple of months ago. Wildly irritating, but she hasn't done it for a while so hopefully 'just' a phase! DD's latest is saying 'yep' and 'nope' - can't for the life of me think where she's heard it but it's definitely annoying me quite irrationally.

Mine (aged 3) adopts an odd American accent at times (too much Madagascar I fear) and has some very odd exagerated shrugs - when she's not interested in what you're saying she does this theatrical shrug and says 'I don't know what you're talking about'
Doncha love them at this age!

If it was just some of the time I dont think it would be so bad its the look on her face when I ask her to stop as if to say I dont have any other way of speaking thats equally as irritating.
She was even using it when she was talking in her sleep last night

I'm glad it sounds like a phase though as a few months back she had an op on her neck which they left open to drain the infection and part of me was worried that it had someone buggered up her voicebox. Silly I know

Dd does this too (similar age). Intensely annoying! I pretend not to understand anything said in a high voice which seems to work.

This strategy does not seem to be working for rude words however !

Triggles · 17/03/2010 10:42

DS doesn't use the high voice, but instead likes to use a growling voice. A bit disturbing hearing it in the middle of the night over the monitor though. I just keep reminding myself "it's just a phase, it will pass."

My 2 dd's both did this. They still do it when playing games and are now 9 and 7. I once listened to them talking to each other in this crazy american type accent (we live in Scotland) and it went (please use american accent when reading this): 'Oh honey now be careful sweetie, you cannae dae that'. Was ROFL.
