Nosebleeds/nosepicking in young toddlers

DS is 17 months and quite often pokes his finger up his nose. I have just been ignoring when he does it as I think he is too young to understand being told not to, but a couple of times now he has made it bleed. Is this a problem, should I be trying to discourage him more? It is not a proper, blood dripping everywhere sort of nosebleed (his Dad gets these, especially when stressed) but I have just looked at his face thinking 'that snot looks a bit red...' both times.

Is this normal and will it go away by itself or should I be doing something about it?

yes very normal and it seems to be a boy thing your probably best to ignore him because if you tell him off he will probably do it all the more. maybe just distract him with something to put in his hand when he does it so he takes his finger out without you asking.

Mine picks and licks! Very charming when we are up the street and people are looking at him. Today he was playing with a worm in the garden and my friend came up with the idea to tell him to rub it on a tissue and leave it for the wiggly worm. He has really enjoyed this idea and has been going outside all evening to rub his bogies on the tissue. God help the worm who eats that! lol

I went to check on 2yo DD one night before I went to bed and there was blood all over her pillow. We freaked out and checked her, but she had obviously been picking her nose and had a nose bleed.
