Twins development

Hi all, this is my first time ever posting on mumsnet but have heard such great things. I am a mum of four boys, i have eleven month old twins, one is very big (heavier at birth) and is meeting all milestones and surpassing them (in my very biased opinion) my other little guy is still not crawling his pincer movement is good but not great however he is very alert and plays well with his toys and adores his older brothers playing with him. I sometimes just worry about the smaller twin being behind, i would say in my honest opinion he is at the development stage of an eight month old. I know he is very alert and a great little sweet natured boy. I am just wondering is there anyone else out there who sees a big difference in the development of their twins. my mum had twins and says this is normal but she can hardly remember our birthdays (big family) never mind how my brothers were developing at this stage. so i feel my mum is just reassuring me. Thanks a mill

My twins were born at 32 weeks and took about a year to catch up. They were late with all their milestones. One twin is lazier than the other and will let his brother do everything first.

One of my twins is always about 8 weeks behind the other, depending what it is. He is also much calmer and I have been very greatful for this at times!!

My first son didn't do a great deal of crawling and no shuffling at all but all of a sudden he was walking at 12-14 months.

They are all so different aren't they!

It is very hard when you have two children the same age not to compare them. But no two children are the same even twins so try to enjoy the more laidback one. My ID girls walked three months apart which was very odd. They are now 3 and neither of them is ahead at everything so i am sure once they get to school the comparisons in education will stress me out!

Twins can be slower with the average milestones, I have twins, b/g the boy did everything first till he was 3, then the girl took over to the point now where we worry because she seems to overcompensate or overpowers his abilities making them seem little when in actual fact he is very average, its her that is above average.

My little boy crawled when he was 10 months the little girl was 1 year, but by 18 months they were both walking very well.

All children get there in the end. If you are so worried have you a health visitor you can chat to.
