Hi All,
Might not be the correct place to post, but I have been sent a letter to arrange an appointment for DS 16.5m to have his swine flu jab.
Has anyone had their babies done, did it affect them, do you think it's still needed???? I'm in two minds to have it done or not... any advice would help. :-)

ds (3) got his a couple of weeks ago and had no problems.

I had my ds 15 months done 2 days ago and so far no problems. I also have two friends who have had their children done and no probs. I asked the nurse and it's a dead vaccination.

DS (3.5) got his. He's had swine flu (though not been tested) and he still had the jab. No problems.

MisSalLaneous · 10/03/2010 19:21

Ds had his at around that age last year. He was perfectly fine. Not even a temperature. I'd keep the Calpol etc ready in case, but if he's otherwise healthy, I don't see a problem.

Here in France people are not bothering with them.
DCs paedetrician didn't recommend it, saying it's totally unnecessary.
In the end it didn't amount to nothing more scary than usual flu season, so unless your DS is at risk I wouldn't bother.
I don't think there were many reports of adverse reactions to the jab ( although I read about a few), but any vaccine could have potentially serious consequences.
I guess it's about comparing risk and benefit- and it's only you who can decide in the end.

Friends DS 4 years sent home from school not feeling well. Put to bed, small temp. Checked on before friend went to bed - was ok. Died during the night. Autopsy showed it was swine flu.

It took me a while to make a decision ,too.In the end we did it 5 days ago(dd 20 months)She was not showing any ill effect at all.I've heard that the initial series of swine flu jab was not that great but latest version is much better. My daughter is generally very healthy baby but she had it done and hopefully she can only benefit from it in future. In our area 9yo girl died from it and this helped me to make a decision to be honest.
aunty101-this is very sad we don't want stories like that

Mooncupflowethover · 23/03/2010 12:05

My DS's had the jab today, I was going to back out until I read aunty101's post.

Mooncupflowethover · 23/03/2010 12:06

Forgot to say DS2 is 11 months. DS1 is 3.

shelleylou · 23/03/2010 12:16

DS 3.4 is due to have it next week after i got the letter. I decided it was better to get him immunised than leave it to chance he may get swine flu.

we ( me 13weeks pg, ds 4.11 and dd 3.7) all had ours done in January. We all got really sore arms and I felt crap for 2 days. Ever since then people who I hardly know have been trying to tell me that it was a waste of time and that their friend who is a GP wouldn't have her kids done. But my view is that I have never had a proper problem with any vaccine that I've had (and I've had loads )and that my GP advised me to have it. Next time I'll not tell anyone I've had it done. And I'm not talking about it to any aquaintance ever again.

Aunty101 - God, that's awful! My heart skipped a beat when I read that.

DS (11 months) has been offered it but not had it yet as been in hospital having surgery. Plan to speak with paed to see if he thinks he really needs it.

I've had it as I care full time for him and I'm fine - sore arm for a few days but no reaction....... well, other than the oinking!!! Kidding, no laughing matter!
