initial SALT assessment - what to expect?

DD1 is 3 1/2, and at my request, my HV has referred her to SALT. She has great difficulty pronouncing certain sounds and has a stammer that is really bothering her. DH had speech thera when he was a child and the sounds she struggles with are similar to his at the same age.

can anyone tell me what to expect at this assessment, please? DD1 is very shy and I want to vaguely prepare her, if possible.
TIA

general discussion with you about DD's language and development, then SALT is likely to want to see her play with toys and maybe a book, and to show her pictures and get her to describe them. It shouldn't be scary, should be from your DD POv a nice adult talking and playing with her.

thank you TC.there's a fair chance i'm worrying over nothing but with DD starting school in september and being the youngest in her year, the HV thought it was a wise precaution.

our initial assesment was much more about conversation with me and dh and a very brief conversation whilst playing with some puzzles with DS talking about what they were doing but pulling in words with the sounds we were concerned about.

The second was much more about pictures and getting him to say what he can see and she wrote notes.

Good luck, this is a great step,

Our 1st appt was a chat with me while ds2 acclimatised, then she played loads of games with him, talked through some books, did some puzzles etc. He loved it! Took about an hour and she did a fairly thorough report.
