is that typical temper grumpy behaviour??

am asking on behalf of my friend, I have never seen this sort of "self destruct" behaviour, he seems to be bashing himslef quite hard and will make himself cry. Neither of mine have ever done this and so I couldnt begin to advise....I just suggested that she try and distract him from this behaviour as quickly as she could but really didnt know what else to suggest

Ideas anyone

my dd used to sit on the floor and bang her head on the floor between her legs at much the same age. i just had to pick her up off the floor to stop her hurting herself. she would only do it if she was tired. stopped after about 2 months

Thankyou pud...I think tiredness is definately a factor...he is such a sweet natured dude...head bashing is so not him

My DS used to bash his head for a pastime. Anytime he was tired, frustrated, upset so he would throw himself to the floor and bash his head. I always noted that he never did this on the hard kitchen floor after one occasion of doing so but chose the soft carpeted area instead.

It went on until he was after 4 (much, much less as time went on) and then it stopped and at 7 he seems none the worse for wear.

I saw this behaviour on a telly program once and the professional suggested giving the child a special place they could go to let out their anger or frustration eg. a very big bean bag.
