Does your baby meet all the 'Targets'?

Because my 6 month old doesn't!

She is a gorgeous, chubby and happy little girl but put her on her mat and she just lies there looking around the room.

She hasn't rolled over yet. She tries to reach out for her toys a little bit but mostly doesn't.

She is no where near being able to sit up!

I also read that by this age they are starting to have a grow a crawling!! DD doesn't even pull herself up on her knees.

focus on the "gorgeous, chubby and happy little girl" and forget about the rest, it makes no difference in the long run. All children develop at their own rate and have different strengths. She'll probably be talking in full sentences before she is 1 or be taking GCSE maths at 12!

You talk a lot of sense 1of4!

My Ds sounded exactly like your Dd at 6 months old. Doing nothing at all. At exactly 7 months old he sat up with absolutely no sign of doing it before and then each week from then on he did something new, Rolling, Crawling, Pulling to stand, Cruising and most recently standing without support. But I do think he will be a late talker.

Your DD is gorgeous, chubby and happy and that is all you need to worry about. Everything else will come in her own time.

My dd is 3yrs old now and never did get around to learning how to crawl.

Your dd sounds gorgeous.

My one piece of advice is to stop reading the bloody "targets" charts Your LO is only 6 months and has plenty of time to learn all the skills she needs. Chill! XX

CokeFan · 08/03/2010 14:57

Yeah, I second, third, fourth and fifth that.

Mine was sitting up at 6 months but didn't roll (either way) until 7.5 months. Never bothered crawling but walked the week before her first birthday. They say that babies haven't read the development books but I reckon mine has and she's doing everything in the wrong order deliberately . And don't even get me started on her teeth and the strange order they've appeared in!

dolphin13 · 09/03/2010 11:38

Never never read the charts.
DS didn't roll till 9 months, walk till 18, didn't say a word till he was 2 1/2. I used to get so paranoid. He's 9 now clever, gorgeous, handsome and yummy.
DD is now 2.9 with the language skills of a four year old. Was climbing stairs at 6 months. But she wont entertain the idea of potty training.
They are all differant. Just enjoy him and try not to worry.

DS learnt how to sit at 5.5 months. He was so content sitting that he didn't learn to roll until about 8 months I think. He was quite chilled out as a baby, happy just to lie or sit there and play with his trousers!
Never really crawled, just pulled himself around on his tummy until 10 months when he learnt to cruise, and then walked at 13 months.

And you'd never know any of that now that he's running, jumping, climbing, etc etc.

When my mother was 2 years old she couldn't walk and she couldn't talk. But she was very beautiful and sat quietly in he pram smiling and letting people say how pretty she was.

She turned out fine in all respects.

thumbwitch · 09/03/2010 12:22

what Heth said.

I have never looked at the targets for DS and, beyond casual discussions with other parents of similar-aged DC, I have no clue when they are supposed to do what. DS is 2.3 - he is doing his thing, he couldn't crawl before he learnt to walk, then he suddenly could crawl as well. I am not remotely worried about him - he's doing fine. I might start to worry that he can't tell his colours very well in about another year's time but just now - no.

Chill and enjoy your baby for who she is!

witchwithallthetrimmings · 09/03/2010 12:29

important to remember that there is a range for these things. So most babies start rolling between 3 months and 9 months. The average is 6. This DOES NOT mean that a baby who is not rolling at 6 is slow or late. She is within the normal range and thus no more or less likely than any other baby to walk at 12 months or do the monkey bars at 3 years.
