Toddler sized bunk beds?

monkeyfacegrace · 06/03/2010 22:37

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but Im desperate!
I have a tiny room that both my children are sharing, and I need to move them to bunk beds soon. My dd (3) is in a toddler bed and my ds (1) is in a cotbed.
I cant fit full sized single beds in the room, so need toddler bed sized ones.
Do they exist?!
I cant find anything on google....

we have shorty beds made by thuka, we got them from rainbowwood.co.uk who i'd highly recommend.

not toddler bed size, but shorter than a normal single

sprouting · 06/03/2010 22:45

I had some made to fit ikea toddler bed matresses. It worked out cheaper than the thunka ones.

monkeyfacegrace · 06/03/2010 22:56

sprouting that sounds ideal. Who made yours?

It was a man who made pine furniture on an industrial unit. There is sure to be something similar where you live.

monkeyfacegrace · 06/03/2010 23:30

Fab, thanks. Im going to make some phonecalls Monday morning. Do you mind me asking how much you paid?
Fingers crossed as the Ikea toddler beds are great, my daughter is is one and so Id only have to buy one more mattress.

Is your 3yo going to be OK in a bunk bed?

what about this
?

displayuntilbestbefore · 06/03/2010 23:40

Blinkin' norah - I wouldn't want to put my baby or toddler in something that high.
Seeing as all my boys climbed out of their cots far too early, that sends shivers (not in a good way)down my spine

monkeyfacegrace · 06/03/2010 23:44

Toddler bunks arent that high guys. Look at the tunka, its only 140cm tall. Im not talking one that touches the ceiling!
Pure, thanks for that link but it would be far too small for my eldest.

I was doing the face at that Shanticot which looks high to me - wouldn't fancy a baby falling out of that!

monkeyfacegrace · 06/03/2010 23:53

Oh yeah I agree! I want my 3 yr old at shoulder level, and my 16m old virtually on the floor iyswim?

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 07/03/2010 00:12

dubb - don't think babies can climb

displayuntilbestbefore · 07/03/2010 10:30

Pure - who told you babies can't climb out of cots?

All 3 of mine climbed out of their cots before they were 16mths old and I know loads of people whose DCs were just the same.
They landed with enough of a thud from the height of a normal cot so having a cot any higher than that could be potentially very dangerous IMO which is why the design of the Shanticot was, to me, horrid!

monkeyface - I know what you mean about wanting the younger child at the lower level.

thisisyesterday · 07/03/2010 19:55

i think pure was talking about having a small babies not being able to climb, like the little one in the top of the shanticot in the picture,

anyone else think shanticot is a weird name though? makes me think shanty town

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 07/03/2010 21:05

don't me [pokes tongue]

was being sarky, innit.

displayuntilbestbefore · 07/03/2010 21:56

sorry,Pure, that was an errant !

I guess I just can't see the point in spending money on a Shanticot if it could prove to be costly in terms of 16mth old baby dropping onto toddler's head one morning!

thisisyesterday - it is an odd name. Maybe it's nothing to do with shanty towns but some mix of this guy's name and anyone else he worked with on the concept?

My DCs would never have fitted in that tiny bed until they were 5yrs old.

CarGirl · 07/03/2010 22:04

This company make made to measure bunks and seem quite reasonable priced. I had to consider tri bunks at one point!

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 07/03/2010 22:18

yeah, i wouldn't buy one either, it jsut seemed to fit the OP's request. Did you see how much it was?

displayuntilbestbefore · 07/03/2010 22:22

yes, but if you order between 3-5 of them you get a multiple order discount of, wait for it 6% and if you order 6-10 Shanticots you get 10% discount.
(at price, not at you)

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 07/03/2010 22:27

fark! why would you want 10 shanticots?

(there's an awful joke in there somewhere)

Cosette · 07/03/2010 22:30

Flexa do small beds that can be bunked up - www.flexa.co.uk/InspiProducts/Classic-Bunk-bed-with-slanting-ladder/7-42

Quite pricy, but sometimes can be found on ebay.

duchesse · 07/03/2010 22:41

All three of mine would climb out of their cot before they were 14-16 months. They all walked at 10 months, and my son used to hook his toes over the side of his cot, wriggle them over, his foot would follow and before you knew he was vaulting out. He went in a toddler bed at 16 months.

I know someone mentioned Ikea. They do adjustable length beds- could you get two to fit in an L shape in their room? My niece and nephew are both still in theirs and they are 6 and 8 now. Or even tuck them up one at each end of a toddler bed? If you are worried about the 1 yo slipping down under the covers, you could make an apple pie bed for him (folding the sheet back up again from halfway down).

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 07/03/2010 23:11

duchesse - please explain apple pie bed? am intrigued.

displayuntilbestbefore · 07/03/2010 23:14

Me and my siblings used to do apple pie beds to trick each other when we were younger! It's a staple of the wedding night prankster too!
You make the bed and from the outside it looks like a normal made bed but because you've folded the bottom sheet back up on itself, you can only get your feet halfway down the bed.
'ow we larfed......
