Getting stressed about weaning which hasn't started off well

DD has just turned 6 months and I thought she was ready to try solids, she's really keen on watching us when we are eating and wants to hold a spoon etc etc, so I thought i'd introduce solids... it just hasn't gone well so far, the first time she gagged and then threw up everywhere, I've been doing it for a week now and she just doesn't like it, she'll put a tiny bit in her mouth and then just let it dribble out or she'll gag and spit it out, do I continue or stop and wait a couple of weeks? I started DS when he was 6 months and he just wolfed down anything I gave him and loved it from the word go (things have changed now he is 2 though and has become v fussy!!) I'm getting stressed about her not taking to it so any advice please!

Please don't stress, ensure she has plenty of breast/botle milk and just offer her a spoonful of food in a little pot, give her the spoon and let her go for it, also offer finger food like broccoli florets.

It took a while to get DD1 weaned. Her trouble was that she wanted to do everything herself and disliked being fed. As soon as I relaxed about that and took the finger food approach things improved significantly. There was more mess but both of us were a great deal less stressed.

Like AllieW, my ds also wanted to do everything himself and never wanted us to feed him. So without really intending to, we took the BLW approach - have you considered this? He only really got interested in food around 7.5 months. Like you, I was surprised as dd had been weaned really easily at 6 months.

DS1 took a couple of weeks to get used to being spoon fed. DS2 wouldn't take a spoon at all and like the above poster we ended up doing BLW which took forever (and I would never do again if they're happy to be spoon fed), but got better a few months later. I'd keep perservering with the spoon for a couple of weeks and then go down the finger food route x
