crazy single mother, looking for some advice how do i get my two year old(almost three) off a dummy and any help with potty training would be gratefully appreciated

A bit like EIS we put the stuff that stops you biting your nails on dds and told her they started to taste horrible when you were 3. She tried one little lick, spat it out and never asked for one again. She was a bit sad for a couple of nights but no real fuss.

mandyc66 · 26/07/2005 17:39

can you just ask her to have it a certain times..or insist it stays under her pillow?

My DS of 2 is a thumb sucker instead. His bottom teeth are already bending. Any ideas anyone to break this habit?

okapi · 26/07/2005 18:59

Shout - I have the same problem with my ds2, who's nearly 4.

Not doing very well on trying to get him to stop

We have a friend who told her daughter that it was against the law to have a dummy after you were 4!!! She arranged for a policeman friend to appear at the house on the morning of her birthday, and collect the dummy, writing out an 'official' police certificate for her, and congratulating her on becoming a big girl. The certificate was stuck to her bedroom wall and was a source of great pride.

my aunt covered my cousins dummy in sugar and left it outside, when cousin went to find it, it was covered in ants, she didnt find dummies appealing after that.

We have a thumb sucker too, and I'm storing up the nail biting solution idea for some time soon, going to paint his thumb when he's gone to sleep so that it tastes horrible, nasty mummy.

My SIL however has 2 DD's both who had dummy's she cut a great big hole in the end of her eldest's dummy and told her that cause it was broken she couldn't have any more - she's 8 now and teases her mum about breaking her dummy when she was little.

Oh meant to add as well, near us there is a childrens farm and they have a scheme where children can give up their dummy's for the baby piglets - they have miles and miles of sting lined up along the pens with childrens dummy's on them for the piglets.

catgirl · 27/07/2005 11:46

Harrizeb: would be interested to find out where this farm is please??

carly82 · 27/07/2005 12:03
