Adverts on contraception, alcohol and drugs

Took my 11 year old daughter to see Valentine's Day last sunday. Was amazed and embarrassed when almost all of the adverts were about contraception, alcohol abuse and drugs. what was the target market for Valentine's Day anyway? Should an 11 year old girl be hit quite so hard with all of this?

I've no idea what the target market for Valentines Day is, but surely an 11 year old girl is EXACTLY the target market for adverts advising on contraception, alcohol abuse and drug (abuse, I assume...!) ?

So?

What's so embarassing abpout it? Perfect age to talk about the perils of drug abuse, sex and alcohol, and I have found that those ads make a good discussion point tbh.

I've just looked and it's a 12A romantic comedy - that's presumably very much aimed at the teenage market then, rather than being a "family film" or children's film. So I'd think that's very much the kind of market that would benefit from advice about contraception, alcohol abuse, drug abuse etc. Certainly the age group that will be getting that kind of advice in schools.

I sympathise. My oldest ds is almost 9 and we have not had any of these talks yet. We were in the hairdressers the other day and the radio was on some modern music station. Every single ad was about contraception, drugs or alcohol misuse. In the time we were in there, they must have played about 7 or these ads. I really did NOT want him hearing them. As a parent, it should be up to us to decide when the time is right for these talks.

thanks for the sympathy. I was starting to feel like a useless mum. I know these talks are needed, but surely constantly hearing these adverts is not necessarily the best way to keep a child from doing something. To be honest, remembering what i was like, it would probably make me more interested in knowing what all of the fuss was about
