Stiff neck in the morning?

Posted this thread in Sleep last week but got no reply so I'm trying again here

DD is 7 months now. Still won't sleep unswaddled. At some point during the night once I'm asleep, she must settle her head to the right, and wakes up unable to move it from this position without crying and some help from me.

She is fine during the day for her naps, moves her head freely, the problem is only at night.

Anybodies DC had this problem? Everybody keeps on saying it is because she is still swaddled, but her neck isn't swaddled, so can it really be related?

I'm not sure I have any decent advice but didn't want you to go unanswered again.

It might be worth looking into pillow options. There are baby pillows that they use in Sweden to prevent flat heads; you can buy these online. Alternatively, there are positional supports for the same purpose but I don't think these are for use at night.

The other thing worth considering is taking her to a Cranial Osteopath who has an interest in babies. It's possible there is a muscle imbalance that might need looking at (a friend swears by osteopaths but I don't have any experience).

Finally, have you tried a sleeping bag rather than swaddling? It might allow a bit more movement so she doesn't get stiff.

Really? It's only a very recent thing, I'd say the past week or so. She is otherwise perfect, sleeping through the night etc - will they ruin her? Heard some horror stories about DC's coming back from them like different children!

I'll have a look into it though, thanks ladies
