ds is 9 months, just under 8 months if corrected for prematurity.

my concern is his sitting, or lack of it. he will sit nicely in his highchair - it has a straight back, and he doesn't lean against it, but won't sit for long on the floor, he prefers to lie down, or bounce. in any case, he is not too steady sitting down, he will fall over after a time, or when reaching too far for something.

often, when i sit him on the floor he will just piston his legs out and refuse to sit at all, and jump around in my arms and bounce, or stand (supported).

he also will not have tummy time, ever since he could roll, he flips over within moments of being put on his tummy.

i worry that these two things, the refusal to sit/be on his tummy are holding him back physically.

i feel stupid and like a pfb mummy typing this. he is my second, i should know better, but i guess i don't.

he is lovely in every way, i guess what i want to hear are your stories of late bloomers (physically) who went on to be ok/normal/fabulously gifted and or talented.

My DS sat at a normal age (6.5 months) but did nothing else - and I mean nothing - until he turned 1. He never rolled and made no attempt to crawl. He was, however, a very happy, contented (but loud!) baby. He loved being walked around from about 8 months, so we had permanently sore backs! He eventually started crawling at exactly 1 year and walked just short of 15 months. He was also very average in his speech development and I always assumed I'd have a very average child. He is now nearly 6 and doing really well - far from average. He's in the top group in his class and quite clearly finds learning easy. I think you also need to chill out a bit more when you have a prem baby. DD (2) was 6 weeks prem so I know what it's like!

My eldest was late sitting up properly, about 9/10mths I think. Then about a week after she mastered sitting, she crawled, then about a week after that she was walking!
She had/has quite a long back and is very tall for her age so I think it just took her longer to get her balance.
My friends dd wasn't walking at 18mths but her speach was amazing!

Try not to worry, especially if he was prem, any possible problems would be picked up at his developmental checks especially if you raise a concern over somehthing.

My DD is exactly the same as SWILL has described! She's almost 9 months (also a month prem) has been sitting up confidently from 6 months but that's it. She's never rolled doesn't look remotely like she'll crawl anytime soon wants to 'walk' everywhere with our fingers (I need a massage!) not a fan of tummy time and doesn't have any teeth! It's a little disheartening when you see all the other babies of the same age moving around but I take solace in the fact that she's really good natured and seems perfectly happy, eats well, is growing well and sleeps not too badly and generally is a real joy. Not everyone can say that. They all develop at different speeds and in different ways maybe speak to your HV for some reassurance.
