Anybody think of ways I can keep my 9 month old occupied? I thought of providing a variety of household objects for my son to explore. Anyone suggest interesting but 'safe' objects I could give him?

Google for treasure baskets

I'm afraid DS has probably been allowed to play with all sorts of things he shouldn't have, based on where I keep finding his little teeth marks. An early favourite was the Sky remote control. Phones are incredibly enticing, as is the parent unit of the baby monitor (particularly if I get it to play the nursery rhymes).

He has free access to my drawer of baking tins and cupboard of roasting tins/baking trays. I just removed anything that had blades or points first.

As he's got a bit older, any pots that he can put things in are very popular. So giving a snack in a small pot is good fun.

I'll stop rambling now!

If your son is crawling you could try:

  1. clean the chimney
  2. take the trash out (hold the bag between your teeth, dammit!)
  3. clean out the cat litter

All good, solid edutainment for a growing lad .

Okay, seriously now.

When DS was crawling we had a lower kitchen cupboard filled with packets of food (pulses, sugar, raisins, etc). I bought a load of rubber bands to secure the open packages, then let him have free reign to empty the cupboards and fill them up again. Kept him amused for months. Then he found he'd had his fill of the kitchen and so we never needed to fit locks on any cupboards (except the one with cleaning stuff).

open your kitchen cupboards

give him everything that's unbreakable with no sharp bits

my little girl liked playing with a small basket and some blocks putting them in and out and shaking the basket to make a noise

My son is crawling and he is loving our large blow up globe that he bats across the room then chases.
The wii remote with its bounceable glove is also a favourite.
But top of the list is books, ours not his, he loves unloading the bookshelf.

Saucepans and a wooden spoon = a very happy child!
