Teething - top teeth through before bottom teeth?

Is it possible for teeth to come through at the top before the bottom ones appear? DS2 (5m) has been, we think, teething for what feels like forever - flushed, dribbly, chewing on everything, off his milk and generally very disrupted and unsettled. I had a feel in his mouth this morning and I'm fairly sure I felt a tiny sharp point of a tooth in the middle of his top gum. The gum looks white there too, but I might have just imagined that as I think that there's a tooth there. Could the top ones be coming through before the bottom ones? I really hope that something is about to appear because I'm not sure how much more of this situation I can manage (particularly the not feeding)!

If you go by the book then, yes, bottom teeth usually do appear before top ones, but there can be wide variations; DD3 was very late getting teeth, about 14 months, and her first ones were her first molars! bizarre child. she is now nearly 2 and just has the canines to go. I hope your little one settles once the damn things are through.

Thanks, I hope so too! We never had any problems with DS1, the first we knew about a tooth coming through with him was that it would just appear! Didn't know how lucky we were! It's so frustrating as he just seems desperately unsettled but I don't know what to do to sort it out! I don't know if it's teeth, growth spurt, illness or a combination of all of them - there's just something wrong. He's just had a full 8oz bottle and gone off to sleep though, so hopefully he'll be OK this evening.

Have you tried Nelsons homeopathic teething granules? I dont usually buy into the whole homeopathic thing but these really work. Boots have them.

Im wondering the same about teething and just logged on to see whether mumsnet had any advice. My DS is 13 weeks and had his second lot of injections yesterday and has been grizzly since yesterday afternoon. Not sure whether its the injections or signs of teething. He's started putting everything in his mouth and only seems calmer when sucking on his dummy which up until now he's not been that interested in. Just lots of intermittent grizzling rather than constant crying. Not really red cheeks though, and more dribbling that usual...definitely. He keeps really rubbing his eyes/ears too and hasn't pooped for a good while so I guess it could be an uncomfortable tummy too.....ooh I just don't know. it's exhausting keeping him entertained while he's like this though. Think i might resort to a bit of calpol!!??/
