where does your baby sleep during the day?

I'm having problems settling my 2 week old to sleep during the day and think it's because of the noise being made by my 23 month old! I'm trying to put her down in the moses basket in the living room as I read it's important to keep daytime naps different to overnight sleep by not making it dark and quiet etc etc. She settles fine in the moses basket when her sister is out or asleep.

Do you think it would be confusing to put her upstairs to sleep during the day away from toddler chaos?

I found my ds2 settled better in a quiet dark room. I remember being a bit bemused as I had assumed second babies would just instinctively not mind the noise.

At 2 weeks I think I would do whatever it takes to help her get enough sleep, if that means dark & quiet then fine! If you leave a curtain open a bit then it won't be exactly the same as a night-time sleep.

somewhere quiet

My DD slept in the loving room during the day, whilst I chilled on the sofa and watched TV.

My DS slept upstairs in the moses basket in the day almost from birth, as if I had tried to get him to sleep downstairs, he would have ended up being bounced across the living room by DD. I also found it was essential to ensure I had quality time to spend with DD.

Once they are a bit older they need dark/quiet to nap anyway so don't think it should matter.

If you want the baby with you you could try a sling and obviously most young babies with nap in the pram/car seat out and about.

DD (5mths) naps mostly in the sling. Occasionally she'll go in the carrycot in the living room, at which point I try to convince DS to come and play in another room (cake making is a good one at the moment)

My DS (22m) naps on the sofa, as his bedroom is up two flights of stairs. Currently 20wks pregnant, and this thread has just given me a minor panic, because I can't be up and down the stairs all the time with a newborn! I hadn't thought about where the baby will nap - I guess I just assumed it would fall asleep on an activity mat like my DS did when younger.

Hmm, I think I will need to step up on the moving front...

Depends on the book you read.
'Sleepsense' by Megan Faure & Ann Richardson (I love it but its not for everyone) talks about creating a sleepspace and putting the baby to sleep in the sleepspace for most of their naps. I have always tried to do this and my 10-month old largely sleeps well. But then he never had sleep difficulties, but then I tried to follow the sleepsense book. Chicken and egg really, was it my child not having an issue or the excellent advice in book. I like the book, its an easy read.
GF talks about blackout blinds - impractical but following a similar theme.
Can't remember what BW said.
Don't recall reading anywhere that they should be kept separately during the day though - but then there are so many books out there.
