A question about cutlery ...

Following on from the previous thread (I didn't want to hijack!)

I have been BLW and want to introduce cutlery. For those of you that gave your children cutlery to use from 12 months+ was it plastic or metal?

Thanks in advance!

combination here!
i don't think it really matters, although metal forks are maybe slightly easier to use

Thanks.

I really want to get metal ones as my lo takes loaded metal spoons well. I am (well, my husband is!) just concerned that he will poke his eye out with a metal fork - or do we just have to be extra vigilent?

I used metal ones with plastic handles - from Boots and the supermarket. The plastic ones are rubbish imo. Neither of my lo's did themselves an injury with them. Both also got on better with a fork first as they could 'stab' food with them rather than scoop and then spill which tended to happen with a spoon.

Metal ones with rubber handles here. Made by Gerber. The fork tines are slightly rounded (still useful but a little safer).

Plastic spoons first, when she started using thm herself, but only because they came with some excellent bowls I got to help her.

I got metal cutlery soon after that. I have this, IKEA do small cutlery which is ideal.

ikea

Oh, no eye stabbing here.

Thanks all. Perhaps we will start this weekend.
