Grown out of swing, now what?

My DS has just turned 6 months and is (according to the labels) too big for his baby chairs. He can sit up unsupported, but will randomly topple over occasionally.

We have laminate floors, so he can't really sit on the floor. Any ideas of anything I can get so I can put him down during the day? He gets bored of his baby gym after a while. We were given a door bouncer but I'm a bit scared of it!

We used a jumperoo when DD outgrew her swing - it's like a dooor bouncer but fixed to a frame.

We had the same problem and bought a door bouncer. DS loved it !

We have the leapfrog activity centre which is great have heard good things about the jumperoo too. Door bouncer also good for short periods of time

I got this as we have wooden floor in the living room and that's where we are most of the time! It's very useful for later when they start to crawl and then walk (to protect from serious injuries!). We also have the jumperoo and it's great but it doesn't last a long time and a lot of money to pay for it. Get a second-hand one if you can.

I did keep using my chair until DS was 8 months and had started crawling. It became obviously unsafe at that point whereas before that I just kept a close eye on him and accessed the risk for myself (the maker will want to cover themselves by putting an early limit on it).

We also have the foam mats (like Angel 1976), but bought from Mothercare. I also had a V-shaped pillow that I used when feeding DD. I used to put the pillow on the floor behind her. Then I was not so worried about her toppling over while sitting unsupported.

this is excellent I got mine off ebay for £3. My 18mo still likes clambouring around on it now

noblegiraffe · 26/02/2010 19:02

Thanks for the suggestions. The jumperoo is really expensive so I'll keep an eye out for a second hand one. I'll definitely get one of those foam mats. Now I think about it, I think I've got one of those inflatable rings somewhere that we got given, I'll have to dig it out.

I too soved this problem with a secondhand inflato-ring

they can skid about a bit on laminate floors though - check if yours has a grippy base
