Best Formula milk for babies with silent reflux?

DD2 has been through trials and tribulations in her first few months (now 4.5m). We are on the emergency referral list to the hospital so hope to be there within a week.
Our lovely GP has popped her back on Ranitadine as is Convinced her symptoms are silent reflux and not an intolerance.
So she is on 0.7ml 3 x daily.
What formula feed would you recommend to go with this as she has been on OLac to rule out an intolerance so we need to change. x

Hi FFM. Could you not keep him on OLac until you see the paed? They may want to suggest a cow milk protein free formula to see if her reflux could be down to cow milk protein intolerance. My DS was on Enfamil AR for a while, he was a bit less sick on it, but I don't think it makes much difference to silent reflux. Sorry I can't be more helpful, hope you get seen quickly!

nutramigen? prescribed for both my ds's who had silent reflux

Freyfreysmum · 23/02/2010 21:33

OK thanks duende.
We did Nutramigen 1 but it does still have a small amt of lactose in it so we have been advised against now. Yes think we may well stay on Olac, at least if only to rule out lact int. Nutramigen AA may be next option after consultation. Hurry up hospital peeps.

FFM, I just checked the nutramigen tin - it has no lactose in it. What it does have is some cow milk protein which has been heavily broken down. Some babies with CMPI still react to it, and need neocate formula which is completely cmp free.

Sorry, thats what I meant. Back to doc fri. Will update, Think he'll pop us on Nutrimigen AA and try to chase up this 'emergency referral' of 30th March, flipping NHS.

My DS had silent reflux and was on Enfamil AR (Anti-Reflux). His symptoms improved from the first bottle and he LOVED the stuff (nb you will need a much bigger teat as it is like a milk shake!!).

However, once he was on medication (Ranitadine and Domperidone) the Gastro-Paed insisted he went back onto regular formula as the anti-reflux formulas + meds become counter productive!

Good luck - I hope things start to improve soon

My DD was on Enfamil AR and for us it was life changing, she suddenly became a happy baby who ate and slept. She was also on Ranitadine and Domperidone, they all started at about 8 weeks, she came off the Domperidone at about 6 months, Ranitadine at about 9 months and stopped using the Enfamil at 12 months.

You can only get it on prescription, the upside is that it's free, the downside is that you have to be organised, you can't run out and pop to Tesco to get more, and with our GP's repeat prescription service you needed to order it about 5 days before you needed it.

Hope something starts to work soon

Hi Lobsters! Just fyi, and in case anyone wants to try it, I was able to buy the Enfamil over the counter - I needed to give my chemist a call in the am and he was able to have it for collection that afternoon. Although it was not free that way, I found it a lot easier than the 'stress' (!) of getting to see GP (a lazy Mummy here!). It was no more expensive than regular formula.

I didn't know you could buy it, Boots always made me get a prescription. Oh well, some days walking to the doctors was my trip out of the house.
