When to worry about not walking?

I am slightly worried about 15mo DD who shows no signs of walking... she shuffles across the floor on her arse at lightning speed, but has never crawled.

She can hold her weight on her legs if she's holding on to a sofa/footstool etc., but does not pull herself up to standing (although she did this once when 12 mo, she hasn't done it again). She seems to have trouble balancing.

As she is my first, I have little or no idea what I'm doing and frankly, I marvel at the fact that we have been able to keep her alive this long. She is in great health.

Is it time to raise concerns with GP/HV? She was a breech baby, but all was fine at the hip scan. Could this be a factor? Or will she just walk when she's ready?

My little girl was a bum shuffler and didn't walk until 19 months.I had her hips checked by a paediatrician and X rays etc but she is fine.I think babies get around so well on their bottoms that they have no need to walk. She now walks really confidently.Initially I bought her velcro start rites, but as soon as I got her little Clarks buckled shoes she was away on her own. When she first started to walk with the Start rites she always had to hold my hand.It seems the buckle gives her more support.
If you're worried, have her hips checked, but ny doctor said up to 2 .5 is still normal for bum shufflers! My boys both crawled and walked at 11 months so I can't believe she was so late.
If your baby is developing normally otherwise I'm sure all is fine.

My dd was a bum shuffler and didn't walk until she'd turned two. We were refered to a physio but there was no underlying cause, just a typical bum shuffler. I got heartily sick of explaining to people (usually people who should've known better, like my Mum, who kept asking "is she walking yet?" every five blardy minutes) that she was absolutely fine and would - and did - walk in her own time.

She's three now and runs, jumps, skips as well as her peers. It did take her longer to be steady and confident on her feet, once she was up on her feet - the older the child when they start to walk - the heavier and longer they are etc - the more work the leg and feet muscles have to do to keep them upright and get them walking.

well being a breech baby can be a factor, as they don't activate the first primitive movement to push - ie to bend the legs and then push away, - this happens with caesarian babies too. you can help this by pushing against your childs feet with your hands when they are lying on their back, not hard but enough to give a resistance.

also try to let your baby have bare feet as much as possible or socks, but not shoes and certainly not trainers. bare feet help them them tune their balance.

a nice trike to have is a early learning centre first trike. my ds pushed this whilst crawling for a long time but he was desperate to get on it, he could ride this before he could walk.

has your high chair got a foot rest? if not let your child rest his feet on your knees whilst he is in the high chair,

soz just realised 'she' soz.
my nephew did not walk til he was two and he is a 6 year old sprite now
