I'm hoping that someone can help me. My LO has tonsilitis (sp?) and we have been given orange flavoured penicillin but he refuses to take it. we have tried with a spoon, a syringe and in yogurt but none have been successful. Has anyone got any tips? we really need to get his temperature down. please help!

thanks all!

Get a syringe from your GP or chemist. Pin child down and insert the syringe in the child's mouth. Aim for the inside cheek then close mouth, gently pinch nose and tilt back head to force the child to swallow.

I know what I have suggested is horrible, but you have failed on all the nice methods.

MY DS is 16 months so a bit young for bribery but might try it - someone else suggested mixing it with ice cream which i might try as it might sooth his throat too. but can't do that 4 times a day!!

Definitely the syringe it goes in quickly needs only a small space and you can get that medicine in very fast. My kids all refuse a spoon but will take a syringe. They do them in some bottles of ibuprofen for kids, and they are invaluable!

I'm with the pin him down and force it with the syringe. My son was on meds for months for a reacton to the TB jab and we tried everything to get him to take the meds willingly. In the end we have given up and decided it is more important that he takes the meds than enjoys the experience!
