DD1 was 4 a week ago. Since she was 1 i have been serving her a spoon of baked beans every month orso and she has never eaten them, never tasted them , she just poked them, declared them disgusting, and wept at them being near her food.
I love baked beans, so I persevered. Tonight, we had sausage, yorkshires (cheats toad in the hole!), some veg + a teeny spoon of beans on their plates.
I wasn't paying any attention to either of them eating, we were singing a song + she suddenly announced
'Mummy! Baked beans are yummy, can I have some more, please?'

Hurrah! Praise the lord!

Brilliant !

DS1 was a very fussy eater (detailed elsewhere on MN .....), almost phobic. Would not try things.

He really started his (slow) improvement at 4, with the help of Tania Byron.

One of my best moments as a mum was when he ate shepherds pie and veg the first time

(non-one else but me likes baked beans, though)

Its such a eureka moment isnt it? Ds (3) was like that with lettuce, cucumber and pepper. It has made him much more willing to try new things since too as he knows sometimes things he THINKS will be yucky are actually nice.

Thanks, A eureka moment is right, she won't eat anything that has sauce on it, so if I make curry or stew I have to shake off the liquid from the meat before she will even think about it, never eaten soup etc.
I just kept saing 'but please justa taste on your tongue?' and of course she clamped down and refusedstubborn little madam.

Big fuss, icecream, bananas and hot choc sauce for pudding (which is super treat pudding here) so fingers crossed I can get her to try things more often.

She also ate a bt of carrot voluntarily the other day, again, when I wasn't looking and watching telly was preoccupied wiht something else....

essenceofjack, thanks for this. my 3yo dd will also noy eat anything in a sauce and freaks if i give her things. this has inspired me to persist!

Hah, tonight I dished up veggie filled shepherds pie, another of my favourites and something she has refused to eat ever.
(she won't eat mash or jacket potatoes)

She tried a bit of the potato and then a forkful of the mince!

I am searching for the 'picky eater off' button.

My dd is also a very picky eater, but last week she ate a roast potato, and then asked for more, unfortunately dh had got there first and polished off the rest, but still, I was thrilled as she won't try new foods.

Was a real eureka moment!

Must be something in the air today. DS asked to buy string beans while in tesco today (thinks they sound funny), and then helped me to chop them and ate them declaring that they are delicious.

He'll now eat string beans, broccoli, cauliflower and sweetcorn! bloody miracle.
