At what age should they be expected not to interrupt when the adults are talking or on the phone?

Um I have 14 year old who still does it

There is no age limit. I have friends in their 20's and 30's who still do.

heheheh read the thread title and thought it was about whether it was OK to interrupt children - yes

I would say when they an understand what interrupting is and they have some impulse control. I expect this varies for each child, with my eldest I'd say about 5 and a half. His impulse control is very poor however when he's angry, hungry, tired or overexcited. Which is quite a lot.

I expect some kids are naturally better at it than others. Some will have to work very hard at it throughout their lives, IMO its not just a manners thing.

Louonhighwaytohell Alas, friends in 30's and 40's do it too but not when on the phone!

Think I'm guilty of it too when I just want someone to get to the point

Trying to teach my almost 4 yr old to wait his turn seems impossible for him at times. He's just soooo excited about a small random fact he HAs to tell us, bless him.
Does get really annoying too.

So, no idea nappyaddict sorry!

Not sure what age, but I tell ds who's 3 that I'm speaking to x and he'll have to wait. He doesn't usually but I presume it'll sink in eventually.

At 3 I wouldn't be cross with him for interrupting, and obv I do want him to tell me if he needs the loo or similar, so I do listen out for what he's saying before telling him to wait.
