First Bite!

Just had the experience of DS biting both myself and DD this morning. It happened when he was very excited, we were playing in a home made tent, he just came up to me and chomped down on my arm, then 10 mins later, bit his older sister. Again when he was very excited.

DS is just turned 16 months and has never bitten before, never hit out, and i want to "nip this in the bud" pardon the pun!

Just firmly and crossly with a cross face look at him and say no..no need to shout..the deeper your voice the better, and then give him no attention for it but overly give the poor recipient the attention for being bitten.

If he were older and doing something he knows is wrong, the naughty step would be my port of call but he is experimenting so firmness is all at the moment!{showing my teeth emoticon}

Thanks for replying! I think that I looked shocked when he bit me, and cross when he bit his sister! No more biting today, so I sincerely hope that it was a one-off. Silly really, but I found it very upsetting.

What Mrs Poppins said. I might also put him down or away from me. Shock can look quite funny to a wee one.

DD did biting for just one day so there is hope. Mind you, she's a bit older and I did do our version of the naughty step.

I would also offer him a brief explanation once the 'telling off' is over and a chance to make friends. Nothing fancy for one that age, though.
