Eye colour change - when?

Does anyone know how long it takes for a babies eyes to change to brown from blue?

I have blue eyes, DH has brown, DD1 and DD2 both have brown. DS is now 1 month and his are still blue whereas I'm sure the DD had changed by now.

Does this mean my genes have won? yay! although it feels wierd somehow to have one DC with diff colour.

DS born with amazing blue eyes, just like DH. They are hazel brown now, like mine, but much more green. I would say the change happened by 6 months, took much longer than I expected.

DS is now 9 months and his eyes are definitely brown like mine, but to begin with they were blue-grey like DH's. It seemed to take forever for them to change. Everyone kept telling me they would have fixed by 3 months, but it definitely took much longer.

None of mine changed colour until they were past 12 months old. One is now deep amber-brown and two are hazel.

DS1 has dark brown eyes like his father (nearly black when he was born) and DS2 (12MO) has bright clear blue eyes like my mother. I was sure that his eyes would change to brown too but it hasn't happened yet. I kind of like the blue eyes TBH.

Mine were all born with blue eyes.

DS1's eyes changed around 2 years to hazel coloured.
DD's are still blue.
DS2's eyes changed to hazel around a year.

DS was born with blue eyes but changed to DH's blue-green eyes at about 9 months.

I'll be watching this thread with interest... My DD is just over 8 months and has, not sure what colour eyes.

DH has brown eyes and mine are blue. DD's seem to be a complete combination of both. DH has very dark hair, mine is blonde, again, DD's is a light brown! Would quite like her to take one or the other as, gorgeous as her eyes are, the colour is a bit nondescript at the moment...

My niece was 3 when hers changed!!!

My brother has 4 children, only one has his blue eyes.

My son is blue eyes like me, DH and his family all have very deep brown eyes and both him and his brother were unusually born with brown eyes.......but it seems the blue still won over on DS

beansontoast · 15/02/2010 16:40

ds was born with pure pale blue eyes...speckles of hazel appeared about four years...greeny bits still appearing at six and a half! (when he was one i thought 'well that's it he's my blue eyed boy'...but no!)

DrDoobs · 15/02/2010 17:59

damn. looks like my genes will lose after all.

thanks for the feedback - it's amazing how i've forgotten all this stuff even tho dd1 and dd2 are only 6 and 3!

I have brown/DH gray

DD's were blue when she was born and now 12 and still changing. They are now grey with flex

My Ds's father had blue eyes, I have brown. Ds has brown eyes that had changed from blue within 3 days.
Dd's father had brown eyes(half West Indian), Dd has bright blue eyes. It's apparently if the blue eyed gene is on both sides. Dd's paternal Grandma had grey eyes, my Mum has green eyes. Et voila! Dd = blue eyes.
As I understand it, it can take up to 2 years to develop their final colour, so you never know!

nooka · 16/02/2010 03:26

dd had blue eyes and blond hair as a baby, unlike the rest of us all with dark hair and green/brown eyes. Her eyes gradually changed to being green like mine over at least two years, maybe more and her hair has been getting gradually darker and darker. When she was small I did rather wonder where she had come from

thumbwitch · 16/02/2010 03:35

I have grey eyes, DH has green - there is blue in my family but I don't think in DH's, yet DS's eyes are still blue. I don't expect them to stay that way, however - they are getting progressively more slatey (he is now 2.2) and I think they stand a good chance of ending up green like DH's.

Apparently it can take years for colours to fully settle - up to 12yo. If they start changing suddenly after that, there may be health implications (a few conditions can cause eye colour change)
